The point being made was that the contrary to DSR' assertions, American soldiers and sailors captured have done the same thing as the British did here i.e. make admissions of guilt or been used in propaganda. The members of the USS Pueblo did, captured flyers in the Gulf Wars did, etc. etc. etc. I agree this should not be held against them but apparently DSR doesn't (at least if they're British).

Royal Navy personnel seized by Iran were blindfolded, bound and held in isolation during their 13 days in captivity, the crew have said.
They were lined up while weapons were cocked, making them "fear the worst", one of the 15 freed sailors revealed.
The crew were told that if they did not admit they were in Iranian waters when captured that they faced seven years in prison, a press conference heard.

Incidentally, in the case that they were actually telling the truth, what kind of "soldier" succumbs to the first threat? Some "soldiers"...
Originally posted by abejnoodLeaving to one side the question of what "succumbing" really means here (no useful information was given by them, the propaganda stunts actually backfired, and a number of qualifications were given by them when delivering their apologies, in much the same way as the US personnel apparently flipped the bird at their captors in the Pueblo incident), I can't help wondering how someone can consider isolation torture in this context trivial - if it broke hardened, sophisticated political activists like the IRA and Baader-Meinhof, squaddy-level personnel aren't going to stand much of a chance. Nations might start walking little boys and old men into minefields when their future is at stake, but this kind of petty imperialist squabble isn't worth the red dye.
