Facebook Censoring the Left

All of a sudden, social platform political bans are an issue. 🙄

This is unfortunately true. Mark Zuckerberg and the rest of the social media and tech giants never wanted their systems to be misused in this manner, nevertheless, they have taken only small steps to police themselves. Stricter Government regulation is ahead for these folks, and they have only themselves to blame for it.

It’s obvious Facebook is cracking down on extreme political views. No matter which side of the spectrum they are on.

I hardly see them cracking down on veganism or pacifism though. So the taegetting seems to be aimed at messages which rile people up.

And if you look at the polarisation in society and especially on social media, the way opinions escalate and the absurd amounts of violence it can lead to, I can quite understand them going down this route.

When I used to travel a lot (backpacking, say) there was a golden rule: be who you like, but don’t talk politics or religion.

It’s an old wisdom if one wants to keep people sane.

It never was about left or right. You just thought it was. Now that Trump is out the left is starting to realize they were short sighted for condoning censorship.

Anything against the establishment is extreme, right? Anything in the interest of the majority is extreme or radical, right?

Facebook isn’t banning material because it’s anti-establishment. It’s banning material which is inciting violence or propogating absolute lies as facts.

McCarthyism was radicalism, mixed with fear and promoted by false rhetoric by people wanting more power / money.

What is your source of information? Why did facebook reverse itself after censoring socialists? Did it decide inciting violence and lies were acceptable after all?

McCarthyism was radicalism promoted by the establishment. Notice how it went unchecked and how actors were blacklisted and Chaplin left the country for work. Almost like exile.

Russiagate is radicalism too. The establishment has left that mostly unchecked as well. It has been debunked and they are still pushing that conspiracy theory. Has facebook made an equal effort with that?

Biden is part of the right wing. Trump wanted to repeal section 230 and that threatened big tech. They want no liability and censorship at the same time.

I would rather have section 230 remain and no censorship, but if that cannot be attained repeal should happen as a last resort. They have no right having it both ways.
