The pool of people with cancer is pretty small. He has a larger market.

It's worth whatever the free market will pay for it.

Yeah, I'm with the majority on this one. Does anyone here think running facebook is free? I'm more than happy to sift through advertisements (that I can easily ignore) to use free services like facebook, or my favorite porn sites.

PS: Actors and professional athletes don't cure diseases, either.

Wrong. Completely wrong. That is only one small aspect of what is done with your personal information. The privacy settings on facebook are only designed so that other users of facebook can't see your information.

But, call yourself an advertiser or a website that allows you to sign into their website using your facebook accont, or an application developer and facebook will give them access to everything you and your friends have ever done on the site, including keeping a record of all the websites you've visited before and after going to facebook.

They put your name, email, phone numbers, city, address, interests, relatives names, photos, comments, likes, etc etc into one giant portfolio and sell it to anyone that is willing to pay them for it. In exchange for buying your portfoloio of information, facebook let's them put an ad on your facebook page.

Facebook says they ask these 3rd party people to not use your info for nefarious activities but if you actually read the disclaimer they say they are not responsible if it's used inappropriately. To wit, they used to put a disclaimer that 3rd party users could only have access to your info for 24hours, but they recently changed that to say 3rd party companies can keep your information forever if they choose to. Why did they do that? Simple. Advertisers and 3rd party companies were willing to pay more for your information if they keep it longer.

So, what does this matter to you? For most of you sacjobs, it makes no difference. You think that because you dont' pay money to use the site it's free. Yet you don't realize it's not free. You've sold your personal information in order to use the site. In order to post a few photos and make a few stupid comments, you've sold your identity.

But what's worse is that you didn't do it. You didn't sell your information. Someone else did. And they made a boatload of money and gave you nothing in real terms. You are not the user people...you are the PRODUCT being sold. You provide the content and get nothing in return!!

To put in sports terms, an owner builds an arena, sells tickets, does marketing but it is the PLAYERS that provide the content. The players are the reason why the team is able to make money. The players are paid about about 50% of the revenue the team generates.

How much does facebook pay each of it's users for the content they provide??

    Nothing.

You provide the content and they are making 4.2 Billion dollars a year and the owners of facebook will make another 100 Billion dollars after the IPO and all they have done is build the arena for you to play in.

Congrats users of facebook. You are modern day slaves working for free to make your masters rich.

So now you want Facebook to pay you for voluntarily accepting a free service from them?

Damn, the entitlement culture really is out of control.

Maybe if we taxed the top 1%, the other 99% could be paid for using facebook.

I've been reading about this more and more. I only had a Facebook account for 2-3 months, then I shut it down. It was fun reconnecting with my old school friends, but I think Facebook is headed in the wrong direction.

And Mark Zuckerberg and his henchmen didn't come to your house and put a gun to your head and demand that you re-join and post your personal stuff???

No they didn't. It's just that Facebook is like a never ending class reunion. It was fun reconnecting with my classmates at first, but I don't want a steady diet of it. A class reunion every 5-10 years is enough for me.
