We should Tax the *uck out of fast food to compensate for its many repercussions. Sort of like cigarettes and gas.

Don't eat the crap. That's all you Libs know how to do is add some damn tax to the problems of the world. tax the hell out of beer and liquor too while you're at it.

That would be one regressive tax, since it is mostly the poor that subsist off of fast food. Why not invest in teaching our kids about adequate nutrition, and try different ways to help poor people feed their families well?

Libs = tax ... never gets old for 'you', does it?

Far better to cut taxes and increase spending ... still not sure how that works, but if bush does it, it must be right.

All the money taken would go directly into making healthy food cheaper.

How can it be any cheaper? Go into any grocery store and the cheapest foods are always fruits and vegetables. Here's another insight: if you take all the "healthy" foods and redistribute them to the poor, within a couple of years, the productive people will assert their natural tendencies to be clever, industrious and motivated, and they will wind up with the lion's share again.

Every elementary grade in the US learns about nutrition every year, but education in a classroom cannot overcome lazy parenting. Until parents turn off the TV and learn to say no, education will have no impact.

What bloody nonsense. Millions of taxpayers' money has already been wasted to no effect by Blair's incompetent 'government' on such futile campaigns.
If people have not the commonsense to see that this sort of rubbish food (which is no cheaper, and often dearer, than healthy alternatives) is doing them a power of no good. no amount of exhortation will change their feeble minds.

Tax to a Lib is as central as racism is to right wing bigots like dimjim.

At least by taxing fatty foods you reduce its effect. Better than taxing income.

Clearly you are a Blairite and therefore half-witted. Tax and spend on useless campaigns.
If the lower orders want to eat rubbish food which reduces their life expectancy then they are merely demonstrating the validity of Darwin's thesis.

Wonderful idea there. Look at how well "taxing the *uck" out of petrol works in europe. China and the US really do appreciate the subsidized low energy costs that it has allowed.

Besides, you are right. Only government should decide what people eat. And read. And see on the telly and hear on the radio. Only government should schedule doctors visits and visits to the neighborhood party committee. Only government should be allowed to teach children. If an individual tries this away from the government controlled environment of government controled schools, then that person should be "re-educated" in special camps. We can't have people going against the government.

Do you have evidence that the U.K. campaigns have been futile? I was thinking more about curricular changes during primary education than running massive public education campaigns.
