The US is awash with crazy now, Slaves were PAID? Or Slaves learned useful trades. If I was black and had kids I would move out of Florida to a state that wasn't afraid to say how it really was for slaves, where a child is born and could be sold off to another plantation never to be seen again by the parents or the fact it was illegal to teach anything significant to slaves but those assswipes in Florida want to erase all knowledge of that dark history of the US.

According to the newly approved education guidelines in Florida, middle school teachers must now teach students about "the various duties and trades performed by slaves (e.g., agricultural work, painting, carpentry, tailoring, domestic service, blacksmithing, transportation)." A benchmark clarification listed in the standards includes the note that teachers should also instruct that enslaved people developed skills, "in some instances... for their personal benefit."

By golly, yes, they probably learned how to use medicinal herbs to disinfect wounds caused by floggings. They probably learned how to set bones broken by beatings. And they learned "domestic services", such as submitting to sexual relations whenever it suited their owners.
