So we are letting a British spy tell the USA how to run our government based on unverified allegations?

The Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign hired the opposition-research firm Fusion GPS in April 2016 to dig up dirt on Donald Trump.

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2017/11/13/the-sketchy-fusion-gps-dossier-links-clinton-campaign-to-media-narrative-engineers/

Why does Fusion GPS investigate politics? Isn't that the job of the FBI? Isn't this sort of thing supposed to be investigated by Americans and not British spooks?

Maybe we should call the USA the British States of America.

Hold on there big guy. British spies are not telling our government how to do anything, and you would do well to consider MI6 has cooperated with the CIA, FBI and the State dept. since the 1940's and fed America very reliable intel. on the former Soviet Union, and a multitude of terrorist organizations. MI6 has had an excellent record of reliability and accuracy for over 60 years. I know you don't like them now, because they've said some things about Trump you don't like, but that does not make them any less reliable. Frankly, I'll take the word of British MI6 over "The Donald" any old day!

Yep, just imagine all that lovely national health care you would get if you were the B.S.A

Really? Why didn't Fusion GPS hire an ex CIA spy then?

No, it is your truth, which is obviously not the same as actual truth.

LOL!
You sound like Giuliani saying "truth isn't truth". Hilarious!

So you are claiming I wrote something false?
Then you can prove it. Go ahead and try. You sure are taking your time embarrassing me like you have always dreamed of. FAIL!

The "truth"? There's very little "truth" in this post.

A) Steele isn't a "British spy"; he hasn't worked for MI6 since 2009;

B) AFAIK Steele hasn't told the USA "how to run our government ";

C) While some of the more salacious information in the dossier hasn't been verified, the basic story outlined in it i.e. that the Russians meddled in the 2016 election in the hope of getting Donald Trump elected is about as "verified" as any such fact could be. All US intelligence agencies support this fact based on independent information, numerous Russian nationals are now indicted because of it (with numerous detailed factual evidence in their indictments) and Senators of both parties tasked with investigating the allegations have publicly so stated that it is true.

D) Actually, it was a right wing organization, the Washington Free Beacon, that first hired GPS Fusion to try to find damaging information about Trump. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/27/us/politics/trump-dossier-paul-singer.html

E) No, it isn't the job of the FBI to "investigate politics" unless and until there is credible information suggesting corruption. https://www.fbi.gov/about/mission

Once such information was provided the FBI that there was possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, the FBI did start investigating - and right wingers are still screeching about them doing so.

F) GPS Fusion is a US corporation run by US citizens, most of whom had previously worked for the Wall Street Journal. Yes, they do "Political research" that's what the "P" in the name stands for (" The "GPS" initialism is derived from "Global research, Political analysis, Strategic insight"."😉. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_GPS

The firm contracting out work to a foreign national isn't any different than Trump Industries hiring a Mexican dishwasher.

Simpson has already testified in front of three Congressional Committees. The letter his lawyers sent gives quite sufficient reasons not to be forced to do so in front of another one as a political ploy:

"The Committee has refused to define the scope of the deposition, but its members have already falsely accused Mr. Simpson of 'lying' -- ample basis for us to be concerned that this Committee is only seeking to falsely incriminate Mr. Simpson," the letter said. "Thus, the service of a subpoena on Mr. Simpson for a closed-door deposition by politicians who have already exhibited abundant bad faith leaves him with no other decision than to stand on his constitutional rights under the First and Fifth Amendments not to testify.

AND:

"The obvious -- and at times explicitly stated -- goal of this Committee is to discredit and otherwise damage witnesses to Russia's interference in the 2016 election, all as part of an effort to protect a President who has sought to placate and curry favor with a hostile foreign power and who demands that the Justice Department stop investigating him," the letter continues.

Subpoena powers for Congressional Committees are to get testimony relevant to decisions on future legislation not to harass individuals as part of a conspiracy to obstruct criminal investigations.
