They had Hannity and Trish Regan go on air saying the coronavirus is a hoax while the Murdochs were taking safety measures to protect themselves from it.
Now the concern inside Fox News is that people might have valid reason to sue them for misinforming the public.
Americans should set aside in their agenda some time to do just this. Right after voting out of office every politician that was more concerned with giving billionaires money instead of keeping the people safe.
@divegeester
Are you ok with assswipes at Fox spreading disinformation which their viewers would take as true so they ignore guidelines put into place to save their lives? Seems to me it is like yelling FIRE in a crowded movie theater.
-Removed-Do you think spreading false information about a rival is going to cost as many lives as claiming that the corona virus pandemic is a hoax?
I’m sure news corps spread false or unverifiable information about each other at every opportunity but who cares.
Actively countering public health information at a time when field hospitals and makeshift morgues are being set up is on a different level, don’t you think?
@kevcvs57 saidDon't accept his premise and argue from there. He said TYT is lying but offered no proof to that. He didn't even watch the video. We know for a fact fox news was spreading misinformation.

The discussion isn't who lied and how much. The discussion is how many lawsuits Fox News should face after then pandemic and how much should it cost them.
@zahlanzi saidWell if it’s because they told untruths per se then no they shouldn’t be sued at all because the right to lie must be protected in order to protect free speech. My point is that in this case Fox News is subverting the instructions of a government that is effectively on a war footing by claiming the enemy either does not exist or is not an existential threat when according to your thread title post the owners of Fox clearly believe that it does exist and that it is an existential threat.

@zahlanzi saidAnd if successful, perhaps they can be sued for opposing any plans to combat climate change. After that, perhaps they can be sued for opposing things like Roe vs. Wade.

The sky is the limit really.

"Right to lie" is not free speech and it's not a right, what are you talking about? Do you have the right to lie when you sell a product, saying it does one thing even though it doesn't? Do you have the right to lie when called as a witness in court? Do you have the right to lie and yell fire in a crowded theater?
Fox NEWS is not a satire network. It's not SNL. It's supposed to be news. Making a mistake and saying something untrue can be overlooked if they issue a formal retraction, if it's a rare incident. Intentionally saying lies to advance the agenda of Trump or Murdoch or whomever should be called what it is: fraud. They are selling a product labeled as news and that product is anything but. Just like a hamburger joint selling rat meat as angus beef burgers is comitting fraud so is Fox News. It should open them to lawsuits and they should face consequences.
