Recently I've been toying with this idea: freedom loses its meaning when you yourself gain extra freedom by taking it away from someone else. (Pretty obvious really because you would be infringing on other people's freedoms).
Therefore, (my conclusion) the only reasonable way to develop freedom is by giving everyone equal oppurtunity.
Now this has got me thinking even more, if you come from a poor background you are more likely to go to worse school, that isn't as well funded/equipped as ones from richer areas.
This undermines your ability to be educated as well as you could be, and this undermines your career oppurtunites available to you later in life (especially considering how more difficult it is to learn things as an adult).
The reverse is of course true, those from richer backgrounds get educated better and therefore will be able to get better jobs.
(There are other factors of course like sex, colour, etc, these can also be dicussed)
This therefore undermines the meaning of freedom, equal oppurtunity is damaged.
I think this idea can work on many levels.
So what do you think? Does this sound logical to you, or not?

Originally posted by EcstremeVenomMy idea of equal oppurtunity is based on people being given the same resources (i.e. education) to work with initially; those who are better will do better in the system, but they won't do better because they have being given more resources from the start, merely they have been able to use what they have being given (again eduation) more effectively.

there is billions of people on this world, they will never be equal
Edit: regardless though, why? Are you so pessimistic that you can't imagine this sometime in the future?

100% inheritance tax is the only way to get equal opportunities.
