If you want to feed the poor, why give them money? You can't eat money.
Why not simply give them food to eat?
Giving people money leads to corruption and spending the money irresponsibly. It leads to fraud. Giving food leads to getting fed.
Seems so logical to me.
Most people give money because it is a lot easier than doing it right. It makes you feel good for the minimum amount of effort.

It would be too costly logistically to hand over food to the poor personally without making them collect it.
Making sure everyone has at least a decent income will make sure people don't become disconnected from the labour market and vastly increase the school performance of the kids living in such homes, thus increasing the potential employee pool for employees and increasing labour productivity. Everyone wins.
