If you want to feed the poor, why give them money? You can't eat money.

Why not simply give them food to eat?

Giving people money leads to corruption and spending the money irresponsibly. It leads to fraud. Giving food leads to getting fed.

    Seems so logical to me.

    1. A man doesn't live on food alone.
    2. Isn't that why we have food stamps?

People sell their food stamps for money to spend on other things. That's what I meant by fraud.

If you really want to feed the poor, vote for a more socialist government. Also consider giving to schools, sex education, birth control programs, and orphanages, although a more socialist government will ensure that everybody is giving towards those all the time rather than just when they are feeling a little guilty.

Most people give money because it is a lot easier than doing it right. It makes you feel good for the minimum amount of effort.

It would be too costly logistically to hand over food to the poor personally without making them collect it.

Making sure everyone has at least a decent income will make sure people don't become disconnected from the labour market and vastly increase the school performance of the kids living in such homes, thus increasing the potential employee pool for employees and increasing labour productivity. Everyone wins.

"A study released February 9, 2005, indicated that the number of County Adult Assistance Programs (CAAP) residents who declared themselves to be homeless residents of San Francisco had decreased from 2,497 to 679 since implementation of Care Not Cash in May 2004.[3] As of January 2007, the caseload had decreased further to 333,[4] although Mayor Newsom admitted in a radio interview that two or three new homeless persons come to San Francisco for each homeless person that gets off the streets.[5"]

Why not make them come and get it?

Offer them food, if they want it they can get it.

Perhaps some, others sell it for other things. Those other things include things like alcohol, drugs and sex.

Right.. so the government would essentially be running a grocery store. Sounds like a great idea.
