I was listening to a report yesterday on the spin of global warming. It appears that some lobbyists for the petroleum industry have payed huge sums of money to certain scientist to say that they don't believe global warming is occurring. The report also went on to state that they didn't expect to win the debate on the issue, that they only want to create a certain amount of doubt as to whether it was true.

So my question is this:
Does anyone here believe that global warming is not occurring?

I thought that all scientists agreed that global warming is occuring, but the debate is whether it is due to the actions of makind, or to natural cycles.
Either way, the scientists could still spread doubts if they want.

I thought that science was immune to this kind of thing. I wonder how else science has been corrupted. Hmmmm

No. But on the other hand?

Does anyone here deny that the earth has warmed and cooled "hundreds of thousands of times" in the past 3.5 billion years?

What is science and what is greed?

Or do you really think that "scientists" are above the "chicken little" method of fund raising?

The seas used to be 250 feet higher than they are. 80,000 years ago and again 40,000 years ago. Why?

Working out from the Core of the Sun... We as a people don't understand the following things about the sun:

How the core operates. How fusion is maintained. How big the radiative zone is, and any movements there. It is a mystery.

How the Convection zone works. We know a bit about it by studying sound waves, but the basic movements and physical forces are a mystery.

How the photosphere works.

How the corona works.

How the Tacholine and the radiative zones "rub" against each other to form all of earths life giving/taking energy and magnatism.

How the magnetic flux generated at the Tacholine is isolated and distributed through to the surface as "sun spots", become detatched and "migrate" to the poles to force another in an endless cycle of "total magnetic reversals" every 22 years (on average).

Nor do we understand why the most recent cycle took twice as long to accomplish as the four previously studied cycles.

We are ignorant. We don't even know what the sun is or how it works and we are chattering like chimps on fire about our "role in destroying the earth".

Right. We lack perspective. Nothing that humanity can or has done can rival a change in the sun of 0.00000000001 percent of it's output.

That's the way it is. Seems silly to start thinkin' we are great chimps, "changing our planet" until we at least understand why the sun is so variable from one cycle to the next.

Unless you think that is our doing too?

Awile back everyone was worried about Global cooling, I dont know why ppl has to worry about these things and spend billions of dollars researching it, when they could do somthing worthwhile with their money

Money vs. Knowledge?

That seems an uneven bargain seeing as how money has a half life of about ten days and knowledge is eternal.

Learn, learn, pay for knowledge, learn and learn some more. It is our only hope for salvation from ignorance.

btw... what can we do with our money that will benefit us more than knowledge? Free video games for all new voters?

Everything in science is challengable, and reputations come from overthrowing the old ideas and coming up with new and better theories. Newton's Law of Motion were revised by Einstein, not because Newton was wrong but because new evidence extended the classical model. Einstein's new way of thinking made him the twentieth century's most eminent scientist.

Darwin's theory of Evolution is the foundation of all biology, as Newton was to laws of motion. There will be changes in evolutionary theory - just as Einstein revised Newtonian physics, and a scientist who will cause us to rethink evolution may be as famous as Einstein. It is this competitive spirit and challenge to the evolutionary process which is so frequently misunderstood by creationists.

In order to understand what we mean by Global Warming, it becomes necessary to define certain words and to clarify certain concepts.

What do we mean by "Global"? What do we mean by "Warming"? And why is the word "Global" so frequently linked with the word "Warming"?

It's 4:43PM here and it's much warmer than 6:00am... does that count? 😉
