"Utility records show the Gore family paid an average monthly electric bill of about $1,200 last year for its 10,000-square foot home.

The Gores used about 191,000 kilowatt-hours in 2006, according to bills reviewed by The Associated Press spanning the period from Feb. 3, 2006, to Jan. 5. That is far more than the typical Nashville household, which uses about 15,600 kilowatt-hours per year.

A spokeswoman for Gore said he purchases enough "green power" — renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and methane gas — to balance 100 percent of his electricity costs.

"Sometimes when people don't like the message, in this case that global warming is real, it's convenient to attack the messenger," Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider said.

Gore participates in a utility program that sells blocks of "green power" for an extra $4 a month. Gore purchases 108 such blocks every month, covering 16,200 kilowatt-hours and helping subsidize renewable energy sources.

Johnson said it's unclear whether global warming is caused by humans, and he said the threat outlined in Gore's documentary is exaggerated.

The think tank said Gore used nearly 221,000 kilowatt hours last year and that his average monthly electric bill was $1,359. Johnson said his group got its figures from Nashville Electric Service.

But electric company spokeswoman Laurie Parker said the utility never got a request from the policy center and never provided them with any information.

Parker said Gore has been purchasing the "green power" for $432 a month since November. The Gore home is also under renovation to add solar panels, Kreider said.

"Johnson said Gore's home has gas lamps lining his driveway, a heated pool and an electric gate — all of which would be easy to do without.

"He's not doing enough in his home to be going around telling other people how to reduce consumption," Johnson said. "

Advice for the disciples of gore and global warmism alarmism: If you find yourself in a hole, don't keep digging. Ignore this thread, hopefully it will die away before too many notice the shrieking hypocrisy.

Who cares about science when there's a warm pool to point our fingers at?

Gore is not a pioneer of global warming, nor was he ever a scientifically credible advocate for it. He's just a marketing tool, the Marlboro Man of global warming.

Whether it's Al Gore telling the rest of us to live in a cave with no lights or air conditioning, or John Edwards building a 29,000 square foot home for himself while telling us he's fighting for the "little guy," the hypocrisy of liberals knows no bounds. I don't have time for their nonsense, nor do I trust them or their motives. You'd be smart to do the same.

the problems is to get anywere in politics in america, you have to be successful or have a family fortune to backroll you as you try to get elected to important posts. the effect of this is that democrats or progressives generally are always going to appear hypocritical when pushing any kind of "liberal" agenda.

You never learn do you? Please find a quote or speech where Al Gore told people to live in caves or go without lights and air conditiong.

Why can't you make a point without using wild exaggerations?

You know what the difference is: When you say Al Gore should be given a free pass because of his wealth, that's rationalizing. However, when Al Gore believes his cause is so correct and his moral superiority is so strong that it doesn't require him to tell the truth, then that's hypocrisy.

It's called hyperbole, but isn't that what he's calling for? He says Americans are to blame for "global warming" because we use so much dirty energy. He wants all of us to give up our homes, give up electricity, give up our motor cars and live like Java Man on the African veldt and eat tubers and grubs and wipe our arses with banana leaves. No thanks. When the Grand Green Inquisitor and his overpaid, crybaby, liberal, gasbag, Hollywood friends give up their undeserved opulent lifestyles, then, maybe they can begin to lecture me.

If you honestly believe that someone would wish that then you are absolutely, entirely, unable to view things from an alternative perception other than your own. You don't even try to consider why other people think the way they do.
Oh, and for the record, that's what American life will become when the oil runs out and the US hasn't found an alternative renewable energy source. That is after the mass starvation brought by lack of fertiliser.

Peak oil theory has proven wrong every time and so will the wild predictions of Al Gore and his disciples.

Surely you would expect politician to believe their cause and morals are right- that's why they're in politics in the first place. He thinks what he's saying is true- as do most people.

And I wasn't rationalising that Gore should be given a "free pass" because of his wealth, I was commenting on one of the many democratic deficits within the american electoral system.
