nader is just to bizzarre for even myself
bush is ...well..to be nice about it ...a dullard
kerry was my choice
but all things are the same there
kerry is just another rich man with tons of old money
from his wife and his own money
also kerry is an illuminati (skull and bones) member

Yeah, I think were I a US citizen Kerry would have been my man too. Most europeans were pretty optimistic that Kerry would be elected, and most projections had Kerry in the lead. I even stayed up all night to watch the election results come in on BBC NEWS 24.

I guess, based on those figures I presented if Bush is 'a multinational company..' he's not a very good one!

Bush replies to you post,
"I was told there wasn't goin' to be any math questions."

We got off topic.
I am sorry to the thread originator.

It's ridiculous to pretend they are human though.
Nope, haven't read that one. Any good? I've read some brilliant and not-so-brilliant stuff by Self; How the Dead Live was pretty funny.

I don't see the absurdity of attributing apes personhood. It doesn't equate with treating them as people--"How do you do, Mr Greystoke, please take your seat"--but rather giving them protective legal status. I've heard it said that a chimpanzee has the intelligence of a 5-year-old human being--you wouldn't want to do a Dr Mengele on a child, would you? Or destroy the child's environment for economic reasons? Of course this has happened & continues to happen--one example being indigenous rain-forest peoples; the difference between the treatment they receive from logging & fast food interests and the treatment meted out to apes is not terribly clear to me. Going further back in history, it is obvious that many primitive cultures were regarded in somewhat the same light as apes--expendable, exploitable, of questionable humanity. Treating apes well might help this sorry species salvage some of the humanity it has squandered in its cruel & dubious pursuits.

Time for a cup of tea.

Hmm, I see your point. I think some more legal protection than they currently enjoy (or don't enjoy) is probably a good idea. Personhood? Well, I suppose it's as good a name as any other....

It's a legal term (USA). I first came across it in one of the thrilling great RHP abortion debates.

Don't give the monkey any biscuits, it's bad for his teeth. And his arse gets all spotty.

An ape might consider such a designation a demotion.

Not that I disagree with apes being human and humans being apes and such and such, but for anyone who has read Farley Mowat's 'Never Cry Wolf', where he spent a couple of years living among wolves, they should consider apes to be just as much human as wolves.
