One would think from various posts that the Hamas charter called for killing Jews. It does not.

According to their charter, Hamas opposes Zionism, not Judaism. Hamas is against the existence of the Israeli Zionist government. In other words, they are for regime change in Palestine -- not for Jewish deaths per se.

At several points, the Hamas charter affirms that Jews, Christians, and Muslims can live together in peace.

Article Six:
"The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinguished Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine, for under the wing of Islam followers of all religions can coexist in security and safety where their lives, possessions and rights are concerned. In the absence of Islam, strife will be rife, oppression spreads, evil prevails and schisms and wars will break out."

Article 31:
"The Islamic Resistance Movement is a humanistic movement. It takes care of human rights and is guided by Islamic tolerance when dealing with the followers of other religions. It does not antagonize anyone of them except if it is antagonized by it or stands in its way to hamper its moves and waste its efforts.

Under the wing of Islam, it is possible for the followers of the three religions - Islam, Christianity and Judaism - to coexist in peace and quiet with each other."

There is also nonsense in the charter -- a good deal of speculation about conspiracies and what not; and too much religion for my taste in a political document. In particular, there is a metaphorical passage quoting the Prophet (PBUH) predicting that Judgement Day will not come until Jews and Muslims fight, at which point stones and trees (except for one) will betray the Jews. Whatever. Christianity has a few funny traditions, too.

I always say that if your religion tells you to wear a funny hat -- who am I to comment on how it looks?

Hamas is moronic in nature.
Anybody who bases politics on religion is just as moronic as anybody who bases an economy on gambling.

That might have the result that the IDF has failed to bring about.

Well, obviously religion is a means rather than an end, but even so.... a world without religious people sounds like a paradise to me.

All of this is just hot air at the end of the day guys / gals

At present over 400 "INNOCENT" people have been killed

Both sides have faults (one through its polices and the other through its over reaction), but I honestly canlt see this ending without something major happening in the world

The bottom line that that the attacks will not end Hamas and probably lead to the next generation of freedom fighters / terriorists depening on your view

using the political phisolophy of a Beatle is very cheap.
by the way:

''Jesus was all right, but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me. ''

I'd say a world without religious extremism would be a paradise.

Wouldn't any form of exclusion qualify as extremism?

So if the battle is over religion, why is it that Fatah and Hamas battle each other? Are they not of the same religion?
