@Cliff-Mashburn saidThe biggest problem in Africa is the same one that plagued Europe for 1500 years - tribalism.
1. Whites in charge give up power.
2. Random general overthrows govt, becomes HNIC, and murders 100,000 people that opposed him.
3. Another random general comes along, does the same, and murders even more people.
4. Repeat every few years.
5. Blame it all on evil white people.
The 'defaulting' countries that grew out of the colonial ambitions of greedy European powers are wrong-sized for Africa because they cross too many tribal boundaries.
This is not a white/black thing. The same problem occurs in Iraq, Palestine, India/Pakistan and countless other places around the world. Even Ukraine is a tribal conflict in a sense. Endless.
Saying that dictatorial subjugation 'solves' this problem is asinine. Delays just make the eventually civil war worse. What solves this is sensible international mediation, establishment of multi-party Western Democracy with separation of powers, and free and fair elections. Peacefully realigning borders in some cases would help, too.
😆
@spruce112358 saidWrong - Tribalism exist in all societies, all countries, all over the world. Tribalism is just a lame excuse for the fundamental problems of Africans. As usual you are unable to hit the core reasons for Africa's underdevelopment. Try again.

Peacefully realigning borders ?? Really ?

@Rajk999 saidTribalism. The one great difference in America compared to other nations is that, among the immigrant groups, we suppressed it. Everybody needed to learn how to 'be American'. The prejudices from the old countries were to be left behind.

And it worked pretty well. 'We are all Americans, now' - you hear it over and over again, from birth.
There is your American exception, if you want one. 😆
@spruce112358 saidAmerican Anglicizing people is no different than what the Russians or the Chinese do. Tribalism still remains in the USA.

@spruce112358 saidAgain, not true at all. American yes but still retain their Italian identity, Chinese still have their customs, West Indians still have their culture and their indigenous foods etc.

Regarding South Africa, this law that intends to take private property from individuals, if the state so decides, is the beginning of legalised corruption in an already corrupt state.
Why is it that the ANC has done very little to distribute state land to interested black farmers in South Africa.

@Rajk999 saidMugabe tried that in Zimbabwe. You just can't make a living in farming nowadays without money: heavy diesel equipment (which needs maintenance); high-quality seed; fertilizer; lime; maybe irrigation equipment; good animal stock (which need veterinary care); pesticides.

The saying goes, the best way to make a small fortune in farming is to start with a large fortune. 😆
Then if you are away from a major urban area, your products have to be trucked to market - more costs.
And either your father should have farmed in the area (so that you know what to do when bizarre things happen), or you should have gone to ag school.
Taking land from a white farmer who has all those advantages and giving it to a black guy who grew up with nothing in Soweto may sound like a keen idea and "justice." And it is justice in some sort of cosmic sense.
But the near term result is the black farmer will not make it, the land will fall out of production, and the whites move to Australia. Exactly as happened in Zimbabwe.
South Africans aren't stupid - Zim is right next to them. They saw when white farmers left people went hungry. So that's why the ANC is moving slowly and trying to not "spook" people, looking first at land that isn't being "properly used." That's the language in the law from 2024. 😆
@spruce112358 saidJust about everything you are saying there is either wrong, misleading, backward, irrelevant, and is pointing to the conclusion that the South African black community is a a bunch of lazy bums.

All over the world, millions of small farms, under 5 acres are thriving. A family of 5 or 6 can live comfortably enough, on this size of farm, especially if there are govt departments [which are not corrupt], to assist with technical expertise and agriculltural know-how. And that includes having goats, chickens and ducks etc.
A corrupt government, and a people waiting for handouts = failure.
@Cliff-Mashburn saidOh, you mean under apartheid things were going SO well for blacks.
Ever heard of what happened after it went away?
Yeah, how could those SAVAGES DARE to want freedom from whitey?
Didn't they know they had it MADE under the benign government of whites?
@sonhouse saidThey had it better under apartheid than they do now.

They have destroyed the country.
@Rajk999 saidMaybe subsistence farming, but that's a tough life - very labor intensive. You need fertile land and good water. (Unless you are lucky enough to own a highly sought-after vineyard!)

Micro farms like that don't produce enough surplus to feed a modern country.
The average sized farm in the US is 463 acres, but we get good rain in many places. In SA farms are usually much bigger - 2000 acres is considered a small amount of land to be farming because it tends to be dry. 😆
@Cliff-Mashburn saidNo. Most blacks have it better now. Most whites have it somewhat worse. 😆
They had it better under apartheid than they do now.
They have destroyed the country.
But that's what you would expect when government stopped oppressing the blacks and favoring the whites. It's normal. 😆
