Bill gates has done a lot for the democratization of IT.
The increase in productivity due to the use of computers has been tremendous and a standardized platform was the great catalyst. People doing more, create more and that's the only way to increase average wealth: growth.
Windows is not the best OS in the world? So what? It has done its job quite ...[text shortened]... ell, all things considered, and it's ability to spread was a blessing for mankind, not a curse.

Originally posted by FelixMcIt was mentioned below. Human nature stands in the way. But I will submit a new idea to think about. It isn't the greed of money that holds us back as much as the "greed for power and recognition."
What stands in the way?
How could people be persuaded to follow the roadmap to a decent standard of life for all if it means they're going to feel the pinch?
I earn a decent wage, yet I still want. Greed is a shameful thing, when I ...[text shortened]... ort - everyone gives up a days wages??? What’s the economics here?
Time and again we see "governments", and I use the term loosely who fight the distribution of wealth. The reason this is done is that by holding power of life and death, aka, food and energy, the dictator has absolute control. This was and is the case of all communist states today. They deny all outside aide. No exceptions. Any "gift" has to be given to the "government". A lot of people hesitate at making dictators rich, because we instinctively know about power and the need to be 'THE KING OF ALL CHIMPS'.
So greed of power prevents the distribution of wealth. The solution to world hunger and poverty seems quite apparent then. Destroy all dictatorships. It is virtually that simple. Then the aid that we all WANT to give can be given.
This can never be accomplished as long as the only world government that we have, or will have for some time (the UN) holds dictatorships as sacrosanct and gives each petty dictator the cover of it's protection.
See Saddam for a very obvious example of a terrible dictator who was and is protected by the UN.
So if you want to fix poverty, clean up the dictators who usurp the money and aid.
The second part is not a dictatorship, but the end result of centuries of "institutionalized failure" that is used in class warfare. This is best illustrated by Caste systems such as most Hindu people practice. There is a role for all, and that role is determined by the big spinner of the wheel of life.
The third part of poverty is lack of resource and worn-out land. There are places on our earth (parts of Africa for example... or the dry outback of Australia) that are just not capable of supporting "wealth" as it is needed to fight back poverty. For a few... maybe. For many... never.
It is very complicated to think about poverty. Very few relate it to our basic nature as fighting animals, never willing to greet an equal. Always needing the "fight at recess" to establish the new kids rank in the tribe. Oh well.
Those who doubt the fighting nature of Homo Saps need to just study the Debates forum. What is gained by "proving our enemies wrong" or "winning a Recommendation" for a post? Is it important? Why?
As to Rob's need to kill. It's just his commie self feeling the urge to form a secret police and get on with the subjugation of these evil capitalists.
He did get the bad news the other day. Detroit became the first big city in the nation to declare a tax on "junk food". It will raise a few bucks for his "Idyllic Socialist City State". He is just pissed cause it will hurt the capitalists a bit, but will come nowhere near the $300,000,000 that his Idyllic socialist city needs to cover it's ass on deficit spending for THIS fiscal year. What will they ever do? Maybe set up raiding parties? Capture and hold people for ransom? That seems like a good commie plan. Make them pay to get out. Just like their Idyllic USSR did.
WARNING! ALL CAPITALISTS SHOULD AVOID DETROIT ON FEAR OF CAPTURE BY NO1MARAUDING BANDS OF SOCIALISTS. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK! 😕😀

The "citoyens" used the guillotine. The Russian "proletariate", who, by the way were not proletarians but peasants and soldiers, used bullets.

I'll put the Rob back in Robespierre.

Maybe it would be a good idea to contact Osama Bin Laden. You could work together on this. Imagine the guillotine on Times Square ..... just keep them rollin' those heads ....... The more blood is shed the happier we will become ........ La Grande Terreur revisited .... rejoice rejoice rejoice ..... all workers of the world ... erm ... I mean, all citizins of the earth .......

I earn a decent wage, yet I still want. Greed is a shameful thing, when I think of what I have compared to others I'm sure I could give a lot more. Yet we don’t. I don’t. I'm sure most of you don’t. A coordinated effort - everyone gives up a days wages??? What’s the economics here?

ok we want to end poverty? Instead of killing the rich why don't you kill the poor?
Or you could make it illegal to be poor, and simply use indentured servitude.
.... and you thought nobody thought of that before ? Ask Rwingett how Stalin "reformed" the agricultural system.
