How Jewish are you?

You mean Western Arabian (or what some people would call the Semitic region, due to their languages)?

Probably none.
Jews are not Arabs. They are Canaanites.

What is it with all these people calling themselves Jewish that have pale skin and blue eyes? How Jewish can they possibly be?

I suspect most people who identify as being Jewish don't have much Jewish DNA at all. Am I right?
Jon Stewart, Seth Myers, Barbra Streisand, and Fiona Apple look rather Jewish to me (for instance).

I imagine they are all more Jewish than your Mom. 😉

Plus, any one of them could probably write a song that started with the line:

"Look me in the eye and tell me I'm not Jewish"

@Suzi: In case you are wondering about this yet another transformation: I did watch about an hour of Pete Davidson highlights from SNL the other night.

And is this, according to you, a race or a linguistic definition?

It’s a multidimensional ethnic definition which includes language, culture, religion, biological characteristics aka race and all the other properties that define a nation aka ethnic group.

Would you agree that, DNA speaking, there is no difference between a semitic Jew and a Palestinian from the same region?

And what about an American Jew? Would they have a different DNA make-up to those in the Middle East?

No I would not so say.

Even in ancient times the people of Gaza, the Philistines who are the namesakes of the Palestinians were dramatically different from those of the Canaanite Semites. Philistines were Greek Sea People.

Jews were expelled from Canaan by the Romans and mixed with Europeans, north Africans, Persians etc while the Philistines were occupied by Arabs and Turks during that time.

American Jews have pretty much the same DNA as the Jews in whichever part of the world they came from immediately before the USA. Sh76 probably has eastern European and Canaanite Semitic blood, Seitse probably has Spanish and Canaanite Semitic blood (and maybe some Mexican too).

A kid I worked with called "Baghdadi" would be Canaanite and Iraqi, while the flashy and superficial Persian Jews would have Canaanite and Aryan Persian blood. Etc.

I won't answer because I don't GAF what my DNA says. I was born to a "Jewish" family and have lived a Jewish life in a Jewish community all my life.

Do I descend from the Mosaic Jews? I think so, but who really knows? I look pretty white, so I'm sure there is plenty of European blood in my ancestry as well.

But who cares? If you showed me a DNA test that showed I'm a mix ...[text shortened]... know that I'm less or more racially related to the Semitic Jews.

Is that honest enough for you?
Yes. That is honest enough.

But why do European mixed peoples think they deserve a homeland in the middle east? It is absurd to me. Even if some of them are driven by some prophesy (that does not specify when) that Jews return to that part of Palestine that is now Israel it doesn't say Jews with a diluted gene pool.

And why do all Israeli prime ministers change their last names? Is it because Zionism is a scam? I think so. That is why self proclaimed Jews are so easily offended by the suggestion they take a DNA test. But even if a person can prove they are 100% Ashkenazi Jew they are still a result of an out crossing with European Gentiles. Still no rightful claim to Palestinian land in the middle east in my opinion.

No you are not.

You could have gone to the wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_studies_of_Jews

Or to the more scientific lietrature e.g. here:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3080861/

My own Jewish ancestry dates to the 16th century ( a converted jew marrying in Ulm), so it is hardly there. (Caution. This is only what I know).
I am right. And you admitting you don't have much hardly helps your case.
sh76 was a bit offended by the question and said it didn't matter to him. I am still waiting for a proud Jewish person to lay claim to having more than half Jewish DNA. Can anybody do it?

Two things here, or maybe three or four.

Given the difficulties that people often experience just from being Jewish or perceived as being Jewish, who would choose that?

It's similar to "why would anyone choose to be gay?" (BTW, thank you ancient Jews and all your stupid offshoots, for laying the groundwork for some bigotry in that area.)

Why not just take people at ...[text shortened]... ompassionately, what's going on in your life that you would post such a question as a topic-starter?
"Given the difficulties that people often experience just from being Jewish or perceived as being Jewish, who would choose that?"

I don't know, but some do. George Soros did not when he was in Germany, but he is not hiding it now that he is wealthy. He doesn't hide that he is an atheist either. And Jewish people seem proud to tell other Jewish people that they are Jewish.

I work with women that identify as men, but they don't look anything like men. They obviously didn't go trans. One even wears lipstick. Being different is trendy now. Some people are quite proud to be gay.

"And what is it with so many people of English and Irish ancestry being so racist?"

I have never heard that before now. Did you just make that up? I could say that about Israeli Zionists.

As Jewish as they want to be, baby-man. (Well, within limits.)

Probably more Jewish than JD Vance is Catholic.

As mentioned above, Jewishness is matrilineal, so if over time a bunch of Jewish women thought "blue-eyed guy has a face so pretty" then that might eventually result in a bunch of blue-eyed Jews being born, even though having blue eyes is considered a recessiv ...[text shortened]... tile to Jews.

As a cynical faculty member once joked (?): "There's always a Jew in the woodpile."
This thread is not about religion.

People clearly want to make this thread about religion to evade talking about DNA. They are too chicken shiite to get a DNA test to prove anything. The only question is why? Are they afraid they will find out their grand father is not their real grandfather like G RR Martin did? Or is it because the whole faith in Zionism is a fraud even if you believe obsessively in bible prophesy?

I suggest people be required to take a DNA test to be allowed to migrate to Israel or even stay there. Zionism should have standards. The bible didn't say half breeds would return to the homeland.

One might ask why Lenin, Stalin, or Putin changed their names, or why the same novel might be published under different titles in the US and the UK.

May I ask if you ever get out much (physically or intellectually)?

You seem like a smart person, but I hope you are not just isolated in your abode in the dark woods of central Michigan -- but if that is the case, please b ...[text shortened]... cently it seems there has been quite an increase in the number of bear attacks reported in the news.
People change their names for all sorts of reasons. It is common in the music business. Zakk Wylde just sounds cooler than Jeff Wielandt. But not every person in the music business changes their names. Can you say that about Israeli prime ministers?

Your hypotheis was:

Jewish people are genetcially not to be distinguished.
had you read the paper I linked you would know that your thesis has been debunked.

Now you have a diffierent statemnt:

There is no jewish person on the site.

Less than one percent are active in the Forums, so your claim is hardly to be proven. There are a lot of Israeli citizens I have played and I expect at least some of them to be jewish.

Question: Why should they offer themselves as targets to your uninformed ranting?

A long time ago some Jews found a way to turn their brown eyes blue: live among hostile gentiles.

For some reason people who identify as Jewish do not want to face the possibility that their gene pool has been diluted to have blue eyes and such. Jews and Arabs are supposed to be both Semitic peoples that are descended from Abraham. Are we supposed to believe Abraham had blue eyes?

BTW, how Jewish are you? Do you know?
Why are you getting so worked up over some random topic that you pulled out of your bingo-hopper of idly wondering? 😉

Homo sapiens arrived in Europe from Near East some 42 000 years ago.[48, 49] Like in their African origin, these humans had dark skin but due to variations of their OCA2 gene (causing iris depigmentation) many of them had blue eyes[48,50] (Figure 2, left)."
