@spruce112358 saidSilly goose, of COURSE there a candidates who promise free stuff. How about that loser (NOT a winner) Yang who said he would give Universal Basic Income. So, you are CORRECT, that peoople do run on free stuff. 🤔 ?? We get that.
And you would lose. Because you don't have a CLUE what I'm talking about! 😆
But go ahead: run on a platform of free cars. There is a candidate who runs on a pony for everyone and wears a boot on his head. That's not you, is it? 😆
Uhhhh,, I don't have a clue what you are talking about??!?!?!?
You wrote about 30 sentences in your OP telling us all EXACTLY where you are coming from.
Geez. Luckily I am smiling withmy Jack Daniels in hand,, ,,,,,which was not free, by the way. Would your free world provide me Jack Daniels?
So @AverageJoe1, let me 'splain it to ya! 😆
I have itchy feet and Mike, he treats itchy feet REALLY well - it's miraculous, really. He gets his compounds from Phil who imports product from India and tests it and mixes up a really effective ointment. Works great on everybody.
But YOU say Mike and Phil cannot diagnose me or sell me their ointment. I have to go to "licensed healthcare professionals" and pay them 10x as much for a therapy that doesn't work very well, but which they can charge for because YOU gave them a monopoly on itchy feet treatment; and you say, "too bad; that's the system." And I say, "Too bad for you. Medicare for all, then."
And you reply, "BUT SPRUUUUUCE! THEN THERE WILL BE FREEEEEEE CAAAAAARS!!!!"
Let's have that debate. On the campaign trail. Before the public. 😆
Liberals win. Bigly yuge. 😆

But take this explanation.., which is NOT an analogy. Pfizer makes a drug that one of my partners takes, Donepezil, a drug for onset of dementia, which MUST be approved by FDA. This flows to licensed healthcare professionals, physicans, and the like. Yes, you cannot get it from anyone but a pharmacy. FDA protects our citizens so that no one can get it over the counter , and then figure, 'Hey, if I take 10 of them a day, i should be cured in a week'. Do you follow? Can't have that, can we? It may give him stomach cancer, and my insurance company will have to cover him. And he dies.
Now, Sonhouse fancies himself an inventor of sorts, and tells you he has something for YOUR partner that does the same thing,.. he will sell a bottle to you for $10.00.
Do you still follow? And note that there is no monopoly, there are many drug manufacturers.
You have a choice to get the Donezipil from a govt regulated pharmacy, or, you can visit Sonhouse. Your choice. Spruce, you seem to be blaming someone for something.
Can you put in plain english what that would be?
But YOU say Mike and Phil cannot diagnose me or sell me their ointment.Hold On!,,,Stop the presses!! I almost missed that 'I Said..' Mike and :hil cannot diagnose me or sell me their ointment. I did not, but more to the point here...
They can diagnose and sell to you till Sonhouse's cows come home. I am going to mix mustard with skin cream i bought from a TV Huckster like Chuck Norris, and take it to my neighbor, diagnose his itchy feet, and sell it to him for 2o cents.
Geez. TDS has crept into the psyche of liberals. One of you said today that Kamala 's process was no different than that of Gerald Ford. I don't have to tell you what his was, as That Poster is the only one of us who seems to not know about Ford's ascension to the presidency. Geez again.
@AverageJoe1 saidWhen it was launched in 1996, Aricept (donepezil) was absolutely a monopoly. It's not even that good a drug - some mild symptom improvement on the ADAS-Cog and MMSE, which goes away within a month if you stop taking it.

Nothing like a cure. But Pfizer always could market the hell out of anything (I mean Geodon?!? Really?!?) and they made a killing off it. My dad told me I'd lose his respect if I worked for Pfizer, so I worked for Merck and then Mr. Lilly out in Indiana. 😆
@AverageJoe1 saidBut if you want stomach cancer*, try Prilosec. Take it for a really long time (it shuts down stomach acid, so the acid-producing cells proliferate.)

Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), like Prilosec (omeprazole), is associated with an increased risk of developing fundic gland polyps (FGPs) and gastric hyperplastic polyps (GHPs). These polyps are generally benign, but long-term use can lead to changes in the stomach lining.
It is also REALLY hard to stop taking because the cell proliferation means that if you ever stop Prilosec, your heartburn comes back triple. My friend got himself in that trap - which the drug companies absolutely LOVE! 😆
*I know, I know, I'm exaggerating. Polyps are not cancer. FDA does not approve obvious carcinogens. Generally...
But let's go over this one more time, @AverageJoe1. 😆
People don't want a "free market" in health care because of "Danger!" So they rely on the ethics of highly ethical drug companies (who are NOT in it just to make a profit) and a poorly-funded government agency (FDA; which everyone hates) to protect them from abuse.
And Medicare for all (which would lower drug prices and mean that drug companies just made very healthy returns on investment instead of obscene returns) is unacceptable because then every would ask for free cars, free ham sandwiches, and a free bushel of rhubarb every Wednseday.
That was your argument, am I right? 😆
BTW, how did that military parade go yesterday, compared to the "No Kings" rallies? Who had the bigger crowds and support?
@spruce112358 saidDon't forget my mantra that people have many opportunities of choices in this country. And that our government provides for protection of patents, etc. I do not care to debate about business practices and threshing out monopolies. If they had a magic formula and would NOT produce it, some libs might consider forcing them to produce it. Round and round. They have the right to produce or not to produce...you do not have the privilege of receiving it.

@AverageJoe1 saidPatents (and ‘intellectual’ property) are monopolies by definition. 😆

We have gone way, WAY overboard protecting businesses with monopoly protection - to the point where people now file for protection simply to STOP new products from being invented! That’s ridiculous and will be swept away by the New Liberal Administration! 😆
@spruce112358 saidWould not any acid-reducing pill have the same effect? Esomeprazole?

@spruce112358 saidIts OK, we have a clear disagreement. I think FDA may be in the top three of our necessary government agencies, right up there with the FFA, to keep planes from running in to each other. For you to chide the FDA is not worth a discussion. What if Sonhouse marketed something that has chicken poop in it? Get serious.

"Danger", you say. Yes. Danger.
I can't say why y'all had a larger paraaaaaaade turnout. I think we do not do paraaaaaaade as much as y'all, it may have started with the Gay Pride Paraade, which brought you out in droves. If we DID used-to-be into parades, maybe that is when it stopped,....when you tainted parades.
@AverageJoe1 saidEsomeprazole was a marketing trick.
Would not any acid-reducing pill have the same effect? Esomeprazole?
There have been a lot of attempts to isolate left-handed chiralty molecules, arguing they must be ‘faster-acting.’ But it doesn’t pan out. The body instantly converts enantiomers to the proper handedness.
But the marketing departments are adamant “The omeprazole patent is ending! We need something new!”
Research: “We have esomeprazole but it’s the same stuff.”
Marketing: “Hush your mouth! It’s the next best thing… next… we will call it, NEXIUM! We will make it regal and powerful… but also friendly… we need a color for that. Purple! “NEXIUM, the Purple Pill!”
Research: “… I mean, ok. But it is LITERALLY the same…”
Marketing: “Does FDA require a head-to-head comparison of NEXIUM with Prilosec for approval?”
Research: “Well, no. They only require we beat placebo. But we know we will do that because the efficacy is the same, so ethically…”
Marketing: “SHUT UP THEN! NEXIUM, the next great drug, the Purple Pill will have patent protection for 15 more years! Woooo hoooo!!!!”
I was very close to Prilosec at one time, and watching this was a bit sickening TBH. But it’s everywhere in the industry. Fooling the public because FDA is weak.
@spruce112358 saidYou then suggest that the 'ingredients' of anti-acid pills are regularly studied, and I assume approved by scientists, unlike Sonhouse in his chicken coop cooking up some stuff for his neighbors.

You also temper your discussion with the profitability of the pills, a common ploy of liberals who are against profit, free enterprise, and capitalism....which lead to owning 2nd homes, whatever. You are not thinking clearly.
You are so intent on that that you do not tell me if Esomeprazole is OK to take!!! I take it , it works, but it could be eating my insides!
@AverageJoe1 saidIf you want an example of a 'tough, nasty' regulatory agency - you want 'NICE' in the UK. Ironic name, eh? They are NOT nice to drug companies! 😆

Over there, if your new drug is ONLY as effective as a generic, you ONLY get the generic price!
That's why we need Medicare For All, to stop getting fleeced by marketing ploys - which you call "capitalism" but I call "fraud." 😆
