@KellyJay saidAgain, no, I am not saying that.
You are telling me that out of the south, only one individual who was a KKK member, and the hate and racism was just Senator Byrd? So, to "Kill a Mockingbird", "Mississippi Burning” had nothing to do with reality. Byrd was a public figure; Biden was his friend. You know the guy who said, "If you don't vote for me, you’re not black." And if you look at some of Biden’s old q ...[text shortened]... illfully hide your own side's faults as you condemn what is on the other side, while ignoring yours.
How are you getting that? Southern Democrats as a whole were outliers from the bulk of the Democratic Party. Democrats supported Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Act. But being an outlier is typical of West Virginian politicians. Look at Joe Manchin, who voted with Republicans way too many times and he eventually got booted out of office by his disgusted voters.
But you are way, way over the line to be blaming Democrats for racism. It is a particularly common and offensive trait of Republicans. Look at our current crop.
Another outlier right now is John Fetterman, siding with the Republicans.

@KingDavid403 saidIt wasn't the Civil Rights Act that caused the switch. The movement between parties has been ongoing since the Civil War, when the Southern 'Plantation' Democrats ran things in the South, and Lincoln's Republican Party tried to help the slaves (except for Andrew Johnson, who made a complete mess of Reconstruction because he hated the South and thought they should 'pay' for slavery). From the 1880s to the 1920s or 30s, there was a continuous movement of politicians switching parties. The Civil Rights Act was the very last straw for the holdout states and by then, the process was complete, so now 'the party of Lincoln' is now mostly the Democratic Party and the Southern Democrats are now the Southern Republicans.
Yes. We had almost a complete switch of parties as far as the progressive movement; from Johnson until Reagan in 1980; then the switch was completed.
It's fairly clear if you look at the voting history for president of the Confederate states. They all voted 100% democrat until the voting rights and civil rights act were signed by Johnson a Democrat. The whole south went Republican over the next 15 years and are still there today.
You're spot on as to the actual effect, but, instead of only occurring lately, it has been ongoing for most of the 1900s. The Civil Rights Act was just the final straw for some.
@Suzianne saidYou are all about groupthink; they all think one way, and are the enemy. These all think another way, and they are good. It’s a mix, Suzianne, good and bad in both, and sometimes it’s the same people doing good today and bad tomorrow, because we are all flawed. Your identity politics is 3/4 of the problem, not just you, but all who cannot see individuals in both or all of the parties, so they spot flaws in both groups; you only see those in those you dislike.
Again, no, I am not saying that.

@McHillisaliar saidMy, My - I must have struck a nerve with you (whoever you are) for you to bother setting up a separate account here simply to slam me. I'm really quite flattered.
McHill is a liar. He makes up stories and passes them off as fact. He also tries write pompous editorial pieces that annoy everyone here.
Why doesn't McHill show us the video of the hillbilly redneck in the Pacific Northwest who's wearing coveralls with a Confederate flag on them while waving a sawed off shotgun out the window?Which is a federal offense that carries ...[text shortened]... ause you prefer a site that allows computer assistance with your moves and you're a non sub scumbag.

If you look in the chess forum, you'll see that I play in OTB tournaments (computer assistance is not allowed) and use another site for training, mostly against bots.
I'm 71, not 80, was in the job market for 35 years before starting my medical billing business, which I plan to sell, then retire in 2 years.
It's clear you have some anger issues, and I'm sorry about that, but lashing out at me simply because things are going badly for your guy in the Whitehouse, is not going to help his situation - or yours.
Have a nice day. 🙂
@mchill saidExactly where is it you see these people you talk about that you proclaim their existence as examples?

Lets say it the way it is. Trump is the one who has caused the economy problems around the World by striking Iran, like it or not. That is why no other President would do it. They all knew the economical impact it would have around the world.
Trump got elected on getting the prices down and stopping the wars, Instead he started one at least and we saw food and gas prices go up not down. People are having a hard time and it is effecting people world wide.

Suzianne, you are truly misguided.
@KingDavid403 saidNot that again. You people are real easy to fool.
You guys don’t know American history, maybe a rewritten version.
The KKK Democrats switched to the Republican party not long after President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, and Voting rights act in the later 1960s.
