I have been dicussing this with a freind and we disagree.

I was wondering what you debaters think;

If you love them do you hang on for all you can becasue your love for them must be what they need?... or if you love them do you want their happiness above yours and so letting them go, when they ask, is to love them?

The second.

You cannot love someone while simultaneously denying them their freedom. Particularly their freedom to not love you back.

Sad, but true.

I would say it depends. For example, if it is your child and they are still a minor you need to impose your will upon them to a certain degree because they are not quite at an age where they may be capable of making sound decisions about everything. This also goes for those who are mentally unable to make sound decisions due to lack of intellectual capacity etc. However, other than that you must set them free.
