Trump's policies did not reduce illegal immigration -

https://www.cato.org/blog/president-trump-reduced-legal-immigration-he-did-not-reduce-illegal-immigration

Trump was wildly successful in reducing legal immigration. By November 2020, the Trump administration reduced the number of green cards issued to people abroad by at least 418,453 and the number of non‐immigrant visas by at least 11,178,668 during his first term through November 2020. President Trump also entered the White House with the goal of eliminating illegal immigration but Trump oversaw a virtual collapse in interior immigration enforcement and the stabilization of the illegal immigrant population (which was decreasing over the last few years of Obama's administration).

That's nice, @Wildgrass.

Now, if you were President, what would you do to retard the flow of illegal immigrants into the country?

Punish/fine/tax/jail to oblivion all companies or individuals who hire undocumented workers.

Why do lawmakers who vehemently oppose illegal immigration also support businesses who hire undocumented workers?

Ron desantis is the worst kind of hypocrite. He loves the theater associated with shipping asylum seekers in private jets, but he won't do the one thing that would instantly stop undocumented immigrants from coming to his state. Why?

How will we know if they hire them? Shall we have Federal investigators poking around peoples' homes and businesses checking the papers of their workers and gardeners?

Yes. There currently are documents that need to be filed by businesses about employment.. social security and tax and what not. Those are laws that the Florida government chooses not to pay attention to.

Look. We already know where undocumented workers are working. We know where to find them. So whenever you hear a republican who has the legal authority to arrest business owners for breaking the law by hiring people without documentation, ask them why they dont do anything but theater?

I bet AverageJoe has them mowing his lawn and cleaning his pond, while his wife gawks at their half-clad bodies.

Why aren't the MAGAs ever questioning Ron desantis ( or the other theatrically inclined Republican governor's) ignoring existing immigration law by allowing businesses to hire undocumented workers?

They seem to enjoy theater more than results.

Some states tried that (Texas). The courts ruled it unconstitutional
