@wildgrass saidAre you for real? You write that Trump could not/did not enforce the laws of immigraion?? THEN you say Desantis has the power to enforce the law, so why doesn't he?
I see you didn't read past the title.
Hype vs. reality refers to the fact that the Trump dogma for immigration policy was ineffective at stopping illegal immigration. I know you're emotional on this topic and have some fun anecdotes, but the solution to the problem is not what Republicans are proposing.
The solution is in our existing law. We KNOW that 1/2 of all farm workers are undocumented. Ron DeSantis has the power to enforce those laws. He chooses not to. Why?
Biden is MORE powerful, excuse the caps. So, why in the hell does he not enforce the law, and why don't you write "Why doesn't Biden enforce the law'.
You are being killed in this debate.
@wildgrass saidYou do realize the laws are federal.
Right. That's my point. There are millions of undocumented workers in Ron DeSantis' state. He knows who they are and where they work.
If... if... he chose to enforce these penalties, it would immediately stop the flow of migrants to his state. They would go elsewhere.
There are some 8 states that tag on with even further punishment with their own laws but this is a federal enforcement problem
@averagejoe1 saidI asked those questions, so now you're just repeating the questions again? Why? I can't understand what point you are making.

You are supposed to be answering the questions. These Republicans pretend to care about enforcement of undocumented workers, but they don't actually enforce their laws.
Biden? I don't know. He doesn't seem to have a strong position on it. Trump did. And DeSantis does. I don't know why they chose not to do anything effective, knowing what the solutions are. Instead of blaming Biden for Trump's terrible record on immigration, you tell me why.
@jj-adams saidAre you for real?
If they are undocumented with no public record of their existence...
HOW WOULD HE KNOW WHO AND WHERE THEY ARE?
Of course we know. Our government has lots and lots of data. Homeland Security and ICE have pretty accurate numbers. I guess you're right we don't know all their names but we definitely know where they live and work. You can google it.
Have you ever been to a farm? The US Agriculture Department says that about half of all agriculture jobs, more than a million people, are filled by undocumented immigrants.
HALF!
What does Trump do with that information? He gives the Agriculture industry $60 billion in tax revenue. Smart move for someone who was supposed to be serious about immigration enforcement. Give all the money to the industries that are causing the immigration in the first place.
A Republican who was honest in his/her quest to stop undocumented immigrants from taking US citizens jobs could start there. But they don't. Why?
@averagejoe1 saidBiden, as far as I know, does not vehemently oppose immigration as others do.
Wikldgrass. There are many examples of Biden not enforcing the law. The border is Number 1. Whew.
Deflection, deflection. Still none of the folk supporting Ron DeSantis' little stunt on Martha's Vineyard have even attempted to answer this question:
Why do lawmakers who vehemently oppose illegal immigration also support businesses who hire undocumented workers?
@wildgrass saidThat's been obvious from the start since he has left our boarders wide open and is OK with giving them free housing/food/medical care/cell phones/welfare$ that they never earned.
Biden, as far as I know, does not vehemently oppose immigration as others do.
Remember when they floated the idea of giving every man woman and child $140,000 until the public went nuts over it?
@jj-adams saidOk you could have a thread for saying obvious things but that's not this thread.

Answer the question..

In a 5 to 3 vote, the court rejected arguments that control over illegal immigration is solely a federal responsibility and endorsed narrowly drawn state efforts to regulate the employment of those in the country illegally.
I'll keep asking again:
Why do lawmakers who vehemently oppose illegal immigration also support businesses who hire undocumented workers?
New campaign ad in Florida:
Hello I'm Ron DeSantis. You might remember me for my role as Daddy Warbucks in the musical Annie. I'm a theater guy. I want you to know one thing very clearly. I have all the legal and law enforcement tools needed to decrease the undocumented immigrant population in our state by hundreds of thousands of people. We know where they work and who they work for. Without employment, these immigrants will go to other states voluntarily, or leave the country altogether. We know that our lax enforcement of labor laws is what draws them to the state of Florida in the first place. But, I choose instead to do other things. I've got a chartered jet and I'm going to ship them around. Out of the US you ask? No. I'll ship these humans to other locations within the US. That'll show the libs.
Let's not fix problems because it's always, always easier just to pass the potato on to the next guy [thumbs up]. I'm Ron DeSantis and I approve this message.

@athousandyoung saidFinally someone willing to answer the question. Thank you. The rest of you are cowards.

Just like trump, Ron is more interested in the problem of immigration than the solution. This is obvious when they resort to antics like photo ops in front of a wall that doesn't work or shipping humans to cape cod.
Solutions like asking businesses in your state to hire people who are legally allowed to work in the USA? While obvious and effective, Ron won't do it. He doesn't want to put in the work to fix the problem.
@averagejoe1 saidTo my friends over coffee, many of whom still vote Republican, I would say that the GOP are not interested in solving the problem of immigration. They tweet and they give speeches that say "the border is bad" but meanwhile there are meaningful things they can do to reduce it but they choose not to do those things. Ron DeSantis' state is one of the worst when it comes to the number of undocumented workers, and it's because of their lax regulation of the corporations that hire them. He could easily fix that.
Curious. Put this in plain English. Y'all try to be so cute. If we were sitting. talking at Starbucks, would you talk like this? Really. Life is too short.
