Iranians took to the streets for a tenth consecutive night Sunday, in defiance of a warning from the judiciary, to protest the death of young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in morality police custody.
At least 41 people have died since the unrest began, mostly protesters but including members of the Islamic republic’s security forces, according to an official toll, although other sources say the real figure is higher.

This is over the woman that died in custody of the Morality Police for wearing her hijab too loosely.
And as the women in these protests took off their hijabs *publicly*, the men cheered!
Good for the Iranian people.
@earl-of-trumps saidAnd they burned them !!

Regime has had more serious protests to deal with.
I think about 10 years ago, there was a major uprising, I don't remember for what.
But they dealt with that.
@earl-of-trumps saidAlas, I doubt the mullahs are ready to concede any ground. Saudi Arabia is only marginally more willing to start loosening the guardianship of women, and even that is going much too slowly.

@earl-of-trumps saidThe really good news is that Iranian men are standing right next to them. Seems to be a generational movement that is also motivating older mothers and fathers who are sick and tired of the theocracy of fascists that have been abusing the populace for decades.

@kevcvs57 saidIran has a lot of young people. But the old people still have the power. But as the years go by, their power will lessen. Not because of " will" but because there's just gonna be fewer of them.

And most young people don't want to live in a theocracy. They want smart phones, Emo music, sex changes and tic tok.
@earl-of-trumps saidHow did she die?

Was a cause of death established?
Why would she be killed for dressing loosely?
@metal-brain saidI think your missing the point, the brutality of the morality police is well known and equally despised in Iran, this poor woman’s death is the spark in the firework factory.

Iranians are just like us, can you imagine running the gauntlet of a morality police who bundle you with force into a van if you absentmindedly have a bit of hair poking out from under your scarf every time you leave the house.
‘Death to the Ayatollah’ has a nice ring to it.
@kevcvs57 saidI found that out watching this video. Well worth watching.

@shavixmir saidI hear this factoid a lot and I’m sure it’s true but are we forgetting that these youngsters will themselves become older and statistically more conservative. It’s the same in the uk the angry brave young citizens don’t tend to vote as much as the cowed middle aged and older citizens and by the time they do they’ve morphed into centrist conservatives at best.

@kevcvs57 saidYep. Youngsters start out neutral. Then they go to school and become very liberal. Then they go to work and grow very concerned about their taxes. Then they become conservative.

Then liberals call them racists. So they become angry conservatives.
And the beat goes on....
