yes, the Eurofreak mod allows that .. ignorant douche is fine (it's a cocktail in Amsterdam), not very creative or original, but for a simple mind like yours a very good effort.

If others have misconceptions about ALL Americans, hopefully they will have the ability to change their opinions after interacting on an individual basis. This stereotype, if it really exists, is no more acceptable than any other stereotype.
Well put.

Worrying over what a bunch of phony Euros think about you is outright un-American (not to mention the self doubt) .. but it's taught that way in Public schools nowadays.

Lots of really well fed stupid kids out there. One wedgehead was bad enough .. but wedgehead2? .. is their an echo in here?

It's not more acceptable than any other stereotype, just more common. I'm not worried about what others might think of me, I'm worried about the image America projects as a culture, and the fact that it is not winning us any friends. When I can't have a conversation without being asked what Americans could have been thinking when they elected Bush, that is a bad sign. It means we need to think about our cultural image, because like it or not what other countries think of us will have major effects.

Has it occured to you that you're talking to mostly children in this Forum?
Are you intimidated by children?
Is it Euro-envy, are you starstruck?
Is it important to be "liked" by idiots, to "win them as friends?"

If you visit you'll see 1st hand a dying culture, importing their own demise. You won't find a middle-class, just rich and poor .. and a ton of slackers on the dole.
Nice statues and old buildings though.

Maybe more worthwhile to question the stereotyper on that nasty habit.

Where is this negative image "as a culture" being projected? In what sense? I'd like to explore the typical beliefs of the average American that exist. I am sure I can agree that there are instances of Americans with every negative trait in the book, just as there will be in any country.

When I can't have a conversation without being asked what Americans could have been thinking when they elected Bush, that is a bad sign.
In my opinion, that is a very rude question being asked. I might frown upon the individual asking that question. Whether you voted for Bush or not, or whether you voted at all, we are not the politicians. IMO politicians for the most part are greedy scumbags (notice the "for the most part".) We as voters cannot predict the actions a politician will take once in office. The people asking that question are insulting you as an American, (since you may actually agree with the decisions being made,) or playing on your expressed disgust in your countrymen.

It means we need to think about our cultural image, because like it or not what other countries think of us will have major effects.
It's always desireable to be liked, but if I am not liked because of gross stereotyping so be it. I treat others as I want to be treated, I work hard to support myself, I am raising a kind, healthy, and very smart child to be respectful of others, and I expect nothing for free. There are many other Americans doing this, and more.

"phony Euros"-?

"un-American"- are you a McCarthyist?
See, this is the problem with Americans as they are stereotyped- doing what the hell they want, ignoring international opinion, invading countries illegally, torturing prisoners, but hell you can do that, because you are american- and that means god loves you. 🙄

You think the US is better than Europe? Now I know you are mad.

"Dying culture"- what the hell!

Europe does have a middle class? Whate are you talking about?

"Slackers on the dole"- we have welfare systems in place, which function fairly effectively.

As to talking to kids- the kids seem to be putting better points up then you Jammer.

If it is always desireable to be liked, why would you not want to change a negative stereotype of yourself? The negative image of America is being projected through the media (news, TV, movies, etc.)to the rest of the world. I mean, if every American they have seen in the news and on television acts like an idiot, can you really blame them for thinking I may be one too? Usually the question about Bush is asked in an attempt to understand how people could be so stupid as to vote for this complete idiot. It is very insulting to Bush, but not as much so to Amercans in general as it presupposes that they should be intelligent enough to elect a president who can speak proper english. I agree that many Americans are hard working, intelligent, upstanding citizens. So why do we project this horrible image of ourselves as complete idiots to the rest of the world?
