I just finished “The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism” by Edward E. Baptist. Quite relevant. Strongly recommended. Reviews available on the internet.

Because of capitalism, I lived well in America.

Because of capitalism, young Koreans today all have thousand dollar smartphones and their biggest social ills are computer game addiction and studying too much.

Sixty years ago, they were malnourished and oppressed.

Capitalism works generally well but it does have its flaws.

According to Cecil Woodham-Smith. And maybe that's true.

But would that describe the view of most capitalists towards charity today?

... And, surely, if an error among "Capitalists" of the middle of the nineteenth century counts against the Capitalists today, the issues facing Venezuela now would surely be relevant to you & socialism, wouldn't they?

.... If you can dat's not REAL socialism, can Capitalists dat's not REAL capitalism?

So, Capitalism is exploitative in nature, yet it is the thing that has made it so young South Koreans are addicted to gaming on their smartphones...

Socialism is the thing that has made it so that North Koreans in their mid twenties to mid thirties have a significant chance of having IQs of 80-90 due to developmental growth spurred from the famine in the mid-nineties.

... But, it'd be Capitalism that is actually bad because it exploits people.

And not the Socialist doctrines, which has removed all of the freedom of people and starved people.

Why?

Because Socialism doesn't exploit them, lol.

That may be one answer,,,the nets...., but, might the Duchess comment on why they worked there till they lost their senses and committed suicide? My secretary last week said ‘I can’t take it anymore!!” She chose quitting over suicide. She enjoys her new job. And don’t get me started about personal responsibilities and making choices.

Any reference above to slavery is hilarious, when You realize that Socialist AOC said everyone should have a right to housing. (See Post List). But she forgot to say This!!!.........

She is saying a person should be required by law (say a brick mason?) to build a shelter for another person, who gets the shelter for free. The mason is thus a slave. Duchess, please square this up for us. The greedy corporations, which we all own as stockholders, are making slaves of employees, but you libs make slaves of masons!!!! Where is my LMFAO emoji!?!?? The hypocrisy is unbelievable. Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

Yes I blame the suicider for committing suicide....killing himself. You’re messing with me, right? You make no mention of them just quitting the job. Am I missing something? Please tie up this loose-end, just that one thing, and then I will be glad for s mini-debate.

If they are notALLOWED to quit, then I may be more amenable to your points. I will not take them lightly. Thank you

They do it all the time. I bet you cannot get Wajoma to agree that anything was "real capitalism".

... Finally, we did get our dat's not REAL socialism statement I was waiting for.

... Are the Nordic countries socialist? I don't know. It would depend on how you define it. I see you even put 'socialist' in scare quotes.

What's your verdict on that, then?

I'll call them socialist if you call them socailist, and then i will explain the barriers many soceities face in implementing their policies and also clarify that they are not socialist in some 'hard' sense but perhaps are a socialism lite.

And if you call them capitalist, then I'll also adjust.

Whaddya say?

So aren't we at a point where we can admit that both the Left and Right are going to 'dat's not real Scotsman' us?

Maybe we can have an honest discussion now that we know that someone will Dat's Not Real inevitably, and we can just talk about the merits of both systems, and come to a conclusion.

....

What if I told you that modified forms of Capitalism got us runaway growth and prosperity...

... And that it left room for some amounts of social welfare policies that helped people out...

And that, probably, we should endorse the free market in many, many, many sectors and enjoy our consumerism, but not shy away from having national health insurance and health care policies?

,,,,

And thus, what if we just say that the original premise of this thread, mocking Capitalism, is a little bit stupid.
