I would suggest your own 'solution' of mass deportations, killing and warmongering against those who don't share your ideology is more akin to Himmler than Mrs Merkels.

Sounds to me as though what she meant was "Islam belongs IN Germany" as in 'people are welcome to practice Islam in Germany.'

This is what she said:

Der frühere Bundespräsident Christian Wulff hat gesagt: Der Islam gehört zu Deutschland. Und das ist so. Dieser Meinung bin ich auch. Ich bin die Bundeskanzlerin aller Deutschen. Das schließt alle, die hier dauerhaft leben, mit ein, egal welchen Ursprungs und welcher Herkunft sie sind.


"Der Islam gehört zu Deutschland" is subtly different in meaning to "Islam belongs to Germany." The BBC translated it as "Islam is part of Germany", which is probably closer to what she meant (she is quoting the former German president, Wulff). She goes on to say that she is Chancellor of all Germans, including those who are permanently living in Germany, regardless of their country of origin.
