First female president! Maybe Kamala

Next it will be first gay president!
And then first trans president...

Once they get all of the "firsts" out of the way people will go back to not caring about politics just like before.

It’s symbolic. It means the statement “We will never allow a black woman to be X” cannot be true. Before this, we couldn’t be sure that wasn’t true.

With empathy, we can understand why that means a lot to some people, personally. Generally, it points to a society that is more tolerant.

I think that’s one reason Trump was so jarring. After Obama many of us thought that huge progress in tolerance was being reflected. To find out it wasn’t true was dismaying.
