When I was a kid in the 1980s I and most of my peers barely followed the news. And yes, more than one high school teacher voiced the opinion that it was an absolute tragedy. Maybe it is unfortunate.

Also, why should kids know about Griner?

When I was that age, I was learning about college students getting shot dead by the National Guard at Kent State.
