wrong. debate exists within the science circles. granted, they are a minority, but being a minority doesn't imply they they are wrong. the majority like their grants and governments are giving grants in support of 'global warming caused by humans' research.

The arctic ice did melt.

The threat is not to large animals thriving or not, the threat is to us humans and our current civilization. Its actually more about which would be more expensive to us: dealing with climate change or reversing it. And if we choose to deal with it (which to some extent is inevitable already), to make plans to minimize the costs. eg don't build on land that will soon be flooded by the rising sea.
in dealing with it, we may become the cause for another climate disaster. for example, spraying barium in the atmosphere to deflect sunlight and cool down the surface of the planet will raise soil toxicity. there is some evidence that this is being attempted at some places.

it's not obvious if there is a debate about it. the threat itself is not obvious since there is proof that the earth has been a lot hotter on average than the current average, there has been a lot more C02 in the atmosphere in the past, and during those times, much larger plants (and animals!) thrived and the arctic ice didn't melt.
the ice has melted, is melting and man has played its part is speeding up the process. facts are often debated by people who simply don't want to believe what has been proven.

in short - people are stupid.

Nothing "has been proven" trev33.
There is no proof that man has sped up or is speeding up this process.

i wouldn't say 'glad'... indifferent perhaps.

people die all over the world every day, i'm not going to feel a lot of sympathy for people i don't know personally. it's unfortunate for them, yes...

why feel any different about these people dying than of others around the world in different circumstances?
