It seems both Republican and Democratic lawmakers are taking a dim view of the Trump administrations, reasoning about the airstrike last week that killed top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.

Speaking alongside Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said, "I had hoped and expected to receive more information outlining the legal, factual and moral justification for the attack and left somewhat unsatisfied on that front." He added, "it was probably the worst briefing I've seen at least on a military issue in the nine years I've served in the United States Senate."

"I find this insulting and demeaning," he said, adding that he now plans to vote in favor of a new war powers resolution from Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia. "That briefing changed my mind," he said.

"The Donald" seems to have forgotten that Congress, not him, has the right to declare war.

What would you have done? Sit on it? Note also, if Schiff had been asked for approval, he would have loved to undercut Trump, and being a proven leaker, Sulimani would have been tipped within the hour.

You are naive. I just hate it.

Your respectful ‘full spelling’ of that terrorist’s name above gives me thecreeps.

What "constitution" says that Congress can't limit how federal funds are spent?

The vote on the resolution is today in the House BTW.

"The Donald" seems to have forgotten that Congress, not him, has the right to declare war."

That is why he lied and called Soleimani a terrorist who was an imminent threat. Now we are finding out that is more bullcrap that is not true. Soleimani was fighting ISIS and Kissinger advised Trump to let ISIS fight Iran to keep them in check.

There is no evidence Soleimani was an imminent threat. Even republican lawmakers are calling Trump out on it. It is another lie to start a war and they are playing the classified card to hide their lies.

This one is clearly on Trump.

It made me quite happy and optimistic when Trump pulled us out of Syria and jettisoned 'bombs' Bolton from his staff. I thought that this administration may be the one to finally break the mold.

You get an F on this one, Trump.

As far as properly defining the President's powers, clearly that has been a problem for a while. And although Democrats were all agush with joy when dear Obama was doing the same, reigning in presidential powers is now a concern. I'll lay odds whatever legislation the dems use to clamp down on Trump's abilities as POTUS will be wiped clean when a dem gets back in. The democrats are so in love with totalitarian dictators - when it is their dictator

But that money spent was already given to the military. it came from the budget that the congress passed already. How they use the money is in doubt but the dems had no control at that point

I think the reigns should be pulled in but only through constitutional amendment because, as I said in another post, as soon as the dems take the white house, any laws they pass now restricting presidential powers would be erased. And you know that, No1.

Please state the provision in the Constitution that gives the President unlimited, unreviewable power to use military forces to repel "imminent" attacks only he sees.

And I don't care WHO is in the WH, a glaring problem erupts when you suddenly realize that a sitting POTUS has the right to fire nuclear missiles without congressional approval.

That is scary. One person. On a bad day.

I know no such thing.

Congress never authorized any funds for military operations against Iran. Specifically forbidding the use of any discretionary funds for such a purpose falls squarely within Congress' plenary power over spending.

Unless congress suspends all military spending they cannot usurp the executive power given by the constitution. Congress is not all powerful as you seem to think.

You should actually read the Constitution.

It is the Congress that decides what tax dollars are spent for not the President.

And neither can the president arbitrarily give himself power constitutionally reserved for the legislative branch.
