I don't understand the "war against terrorism". Historically, one man's traitor is another man's patriot...one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. The official reason the US went to war in Iraq was because we feared that Saddam was developing WMDs and he kept refusing to let anyone come in and do inspections to ensure that this wasn't happening. The underlying reason was because the US wanted to replace a dictatorship in the (oil-rich) Middle East with a democracy - the "WMD threat" created the necessary justification for forcefully removing another nation's leader. The real reason, I suspect, was because Bush was upset at all the flack his father got for not "finishing the job" after the first Gulf War - and he ironically succeeded by indirectly showing all the critics why the father chose to leave Saddam in power.
As for the terrorists, the one place in the Middle East that was relatively free of terrorists was Iraq, due in large part to Saddam's brutal treatment of anyone he felt was a threat to his power. Any "war on terror" had very few reasons to invade Iraq.

with respect i don't want to go much into the iraq war here, although it is relevant,
what matters is how the ability to spy on people is effecting our culture .
it's always happened, i guess greeks had spys .. they didn't have 24 hour cctv though , they didn't record all actions on huge databases, this is new ...only really powerful in the last few years, everyone who wanted to spy now has it in technicolour , n all backed up .. and in the countries that have traditionally been 'free' places, if people don't wake up n see the issues here , there not all bad but some aspects sure as hell are .. then we will steel defeat from all this technology that can make our lives better

I didn't bother learning all that lawyer talk. Lawyers are trained to lie and argue points that they don't even believe in for the sake of winning. Who would you rather talk to.
