Worst: Literally everything else. It's a toxic cesspool wasteland set to ruin humanity.
@athousandyoung saidIt depends what you mean by invented.

According to historical consensus, the first personal computer was invented in Willoughby, Ohio.
Silicon Valley took what others had found, and took the next step. They were so preoccupied with whether the could, they didn't stop to think if they should. (stolen from Jurassic Park.)

@athousandyoung saidInsulting maybe. Or constructive criticism.
Good luck logging on to RHP and insulting Silicon Valley with a Kenbak-1
Lots and lots of silicon valley insiders share this opinion. They're trying to make it better, recognizing that the tools they have created have disastrous implications for humanity.
If we get rid of everything but rideshare the world is a better place. Undoubtedly. I promise we can play correspondence chess the old fashioned way.
Technology is a godsend. Think of the people who didn't have a phone but needed one or someone lost and couldn't be located by tracking their devices. Information to learn right in your hand which could save your life one day.
I recently learned that giving bread to birds is bad because it fills them up with little to no nutrients.
How did I learn that? My phone. Also known as technology.
Technology also provides porn.
@fart saidIs there any evidence that smart phones have increased life expectancy or quality of life overall?

It's discussed in many research papers as an addictive behavior akin to drug use.

@wildgrass saidSmartphones, like guns, do have that tiny statistical chance of saving your life someday. But most of the time they just fuck everything up.
Net negative though. Like guns.

It facilitates companies who want exploit staff without the need for sick pay, holiday entitlements, pension benefits or even a minimum income.
It also turbo charges private car use over public transport and fast food options over healthy home cooked diets.
It’s nuanced though silicone valley has dragged the human race into the next technological epoch

@soothfast saidWe can't close pandora's box, but it is clear that we would be better off without either of these things.

Just a simple one like correspondence chess. I played with my uncle as a kid over mail. Now on this site we take for granted that top players are all computer analysis. There's a guy who is playing 1000 games simultaneously? Really. Thanks for ruining chess, Silicon Valley.

It's certainly better than taxis.
