I think Covid has something to do with it.
It seems to me when people lose brain power they are more vulnerable to outside influence, listening to despots who say 'media is the enemy of the people' and 'I will protect you' and recently said by Trump, " I will be your retribution' and "I will be your justice''.
Does THAT mean anything to you?
Only a small part of humanity ever questions anything, most are too busy trying to manage their own lives to take an interest in the broader society. The sheer volume of inconsequential information drowns the voices of the real intellects among us. I don't think it's a failure of attention as much as an inability to focus on the tiny share of reality among the rubbish. It's easier to say "whatever" when you're swamped than to question the provider of information.
