Macron and Merkel urge tighter border control

It’s the schengen free movement area and it is an internal free movement zone and it is that internal free movement that they are talking about restricting and thus has no bearing on migration from out with the EU other than as already mentioned it will make it harder for migrants / refugees to move through Europe in order to reach their country of choice.
It’s an internal security measure not an external immigration measure.

Yeah I watched him making the statement in the aftermath of the recent jihadi attacks and that is the motive for this possible tightening of border checks.
Wanting to make borders less porous is not the same as changing immigration policy. They are two distinctly separate policy areas although control of your borders makes any given immigration policy much more effective in that you can lower the levels of illegal immigration.
I still think Macron and Merkel are concerned with internal security rather than looking to change the EUs immigration stance.

If it meant that a terrorist couldn’t commit an atrocity in one country and simply drive back into another country unchecked.
Scotland and England are not analogous with say France and Belgium in this scenario.

It may have nothing to do with it, but it may have an effect upon it, (the negotiation) and at least now with these couple of 'righties' out of the way our dear PM may begin to think for himself instead of listening to the siren call of these unelected advisers.

Not shutting up Dibby. It was a serious question to try and find out why you are so against open borders inside the EU.
There are passport checks to enter the EU but not crossing state borders to another EU country once you are inside the EU. The same as when you cross state borders in Australia and also,I think,America.
This has nothing to do with Brexit or 2016.

I think it’s basically about keeping the English out after January 1st.

Of course he’s against open borders within the EU. That’s why he wants a brexit. Even though Britain didn’t have an open border.

I presume he opposes open borders in the UK as well...
