I once walked passed Chancellor Kohl out walking his dog, alone, along the Rhine River; on another occasion, I walked right up to and shook the hand of the president of Switzerland in the middle of a crowd. In both cases, there was no visible security, no hyper-vigilant men in black suits with ear buds lurking about, no sharpshooters on the roofs, no helicopters circling overhead, no squad of bomb-sniffing dogs. America has a real problem-segment of society consisting of people who think govt itself is the enemy. Trump became their poster boy.

It’s fair to say all politicians lie and it’s fair to point out that psychos can attach themselves to any cause or political dogma but this Big Lie / Qanon cocktail that the republicans are handing out to keep their base active is just way too toxic for human consumption.

But we’ve had the same kind of internalised hatred over the last decade or so and it always peeks when there is heated debate going on amongst politicians, the murder of Jo Cox in 2016 by a ultra right wing white suprematist was directly related to the way the immigration debate was being used by politicians on the right. They would never want or condone the murder of Joe Cox but politicians more than anyone need to be aware of how their language can be a green light for actions way beyond their intent.
