alcohol kills more people than any other drug; even people who never drink alcohol. it destroys your liver and your brain, and you can die from consuming too much of it; just like any other drug but it is downplayed for some reason; "it is only alcohol, its not a drug". if alcohol kills more people than any other drug, in my eyes it is the worst. so why are other drugs like marijuana illegal in the u.s.? i think you have to draw the line somewhere, but this line seems crooked 😕 since alcohol is worse than the other drugs, then they should be legalized or alcohol should be unlegalized. to me alcohol is a privilege; sort of like when the teacher in a school says "you can talk if you are quiet" and the class talks too loud so they lose that privilege and talking is banned in the classroom. well, people are irresponsible and had a chance with alcohol and people are still dying; so take it away.

Did you pause to consider that perhaps alcohol kills more people than any other drug simply because its the legal one?

Lets just all stay in our houses and never do anything where we might be injured or die.
And lets stop exhaling Carbon dioxide so we can lower our carbon footprints :-)

2. What about people who do use alcohol responsibly? Should they be punished, too?
I could see a reasonable argument for outlawing tobacco, actually, but not so much for alcohol.

If it's not alcohol, it's tea or coffee, if not them, cigarettes, adventure sports, and excessive amounts of sex or masturbation.
Too many drugs being freely available is a bad thing, people will, as you say, probably end up being irresponsible in many cases. So we make what we can illegal. This is easy with marijuana or heroin or cocaine, just kill supply. To grow it at home, you need a seed and the right facilities. Alcohol though, you just need sugar, water, and bread-yeast, if you've none of that, just stick a lump of bread in the mix, it'll do the same job, just a bit slower.
That's why prohibition didn't work, they couldn't control supply effectively.
The solution? Legalise it, and impose restrictions like legal limits, when you can drive or not etc. Of course, many don't follow these guidelines, and laws, but compared to not having any control whatsoever over the amount of methanol poisoning, or the amount of money going to organised crime due to illicit sales of the easy to produce mead, etc. it's a damn sight better.

Would you propose legalising coke or marijuana or prostitution (same end result, only it's a natural high and the dealer is the drug)

Now my proviso for doing the above is simply this, ridgid, unbending enforcement of the concept of personal responsibility. You get hooked on some drug and loose you job. Too bad.. you don't get any assistance, period. You cause injury or property damage while your enjoying you drug of choice, stiff penalties, automatically.
You kill someone while your drugged up, you experience the same fate. no questions asked.
If some charitable organization wants to help you get unhooked, fine, just don't the government state or local for any help. After all, when liberals say 'let the government pay for it' , they forget every legal citizen of the country is the government.
If my above suggestions ever took place (which they won't), it be interesting to see how many rational people would use drugs of any type.

The possibility of removing the taking the $$$ away from drug lords, gangs etc Eliminating a large part of the cost we pay to fight against illegal drugs. Might warrant some study.
Of course, I wouldn't trust the people we have in Congress to come up with a workable plan, most can't put their shoes on without help. (I exclude a few from that statement) After all, look at the Immigration Reform Bill (Amnesty bill) they tried to foist on the American people
Originally posted by SMSBear716Yeah, it strikes me as the kind of policy plan that couldn't be introduced overnight. Yes, lots of pro's but I can't see some of the details being workable in the long run. Definitely food for thought tho.
