Lightfoot slams 'overwhelming whiteness' of Chicago press, defends only speaking to reporters of color
'Many of [the Chicago City Hall reporters] are smart and hard-working, savvy and skilled. But mostly white, nonetheless,' Lightfoot wrote
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, D., defended her controversial announcement to only give individual interviews to journalists of color and blasted Chicago media institutions for their "overwhelming whiteness and maleness" in an extraordinary letter on Wednesday.
Upon the two-year anniversary of her election, Lightfoot has drawn outrage after White journalists were told by her press office that they couldn't interview her one-on-one because of their skin color.

And then Americans wonder why there is a racism problem in America,
while never admitting that RACE COUNTS to liberal democrats.
RACIST.

@mott-the-hoople saidThe real problem with racism in America today is, the racists think that this racism is wonderful. No way to win.
Anyone that says they aren't racist is lying
Let's remember, there are more white people in Chicago than black, yet this African American woman was elected.
Whites are doing the damage by supporting her racism, more so than blacks.
I wonder if a WHITE dignitary from The Netherlands visited Chicago if Lightfoot would entertain them. Hmmm,....
RACISM SUCKS, democrats.
The post that was quoted here has been removedNever the less, it’s still a racist stand to take.
I wouldn’t call it “extremely racist” as the OP suggests. And it is amusing to see our resident right-wing racists all chipping in, as if they care about anything but themselves.
But she is making a distinction between black and whites, and that is essentially a racist thing to do.
Imagine a white mayor in Texas saying: “To mark my 2 years in office, we’re going to have white only toilets for a week.”
I sometimes wonder at the advisors some of these people have.
To take endemic, systemic racism, as an institution, and to turn it on its ear, is NOT racist.
It's about time, maybe, for some equality, but no, not racist as racism is typically known.
What's sad is that the ONLY 'racism' some whites see is against whites. Like racism never existed until whites got a taste of their own medicine. Crybabies.
@suzianne saidYes. Yes it is racist.

And two wrongs don’t make a right.
@shavixmir saidBut it's not even wrong, in the same way that racism, as an institution, is wrong.
Yes. Yes it is racist.

@suzianne saidIs the mayor saying: “I will only do X with one colour.”?
But it's not even wrong, in the same way that racism, as an institution, is wrong.
Yes. Yes she is.
Now, as I’ve stated it’s not based in extreme racism, but it is racist (discrimination againsf one colour to be more precise). And you wouldn’t accept a white mayor suggesting the opposite, so you shouldn’t accept this either.
Not, let me be clear, that I don’t think she has a point to make. She does. This just isn’t a constructive way of making it.
