Michael Cohen reports to one of 'America's cushiest prisons'
President Trump's former attorney and personal fixer Michael Cohen has reported to prison on Monday to begin serving his three-year sentence, at a facility Forbes once ranked as one of "America's 10 Cushiest Prisons." Cohen was convicted for crimes including tax evasion, lying to Congress and campaign finance.
However, the Associated Press notes that the prison has some nice amenities. Inmates have lockers to store personal belongings, they can do their own laundry in washers and dryers and use microwaves to heat up food. They also have access to ice machines. It also has tennis courts, horseshoes and cardio equipment, leading the Associated Press to observe that it's "the closest thing the federal prison system has to sleepaway camp."
Federal prison is based on points.
Violent crimes have high points and white collar crimes have low points.
Your points dictate where you will be sent.
So all those comfortable prisons are full of snitches and pansies.
I was in maximum security with high points for some years.
They called it "Murder Mountain"
It is not like the movies.
@vivify saidYou say this like it's a bad thing.

@chessturd saidYeah, we've seen the TV shows. You're a real tough guy.

BTW: What were YOU in for: Marijuana peddling or serial tax evasion?
@vivify saidDeprivation of liberty should be a sufficient punishment; it is not necessary to chain someone in a dungeon on a diet of bread and water in order to accomplish the societal objectives of the penal law.

@no1marauder saidOnly if this is EQUALLY applied to everyone sentenced for crimes.

In the link above, people were sentenced to federal prisons for reasons like being the go-between for a $10 marijuana transaction, possessing stolen wrenches and removing a gun from the home of an abusive father. Do these guys also get a "cushy" prison? If not, why should Cohen be the one who gets the special treatment? Because he was Trump's lawyer?
@no1marauder said100% agree.

I had everything. TV, workout equipment, an MP3 player with my music that I can buy, emails...yes email.
Good food.
Medical and dental.
Watched sports and played chess all day.
They even have a store to buy junk food.
Not having my freedom taught me to be good and stay out of prison.
Federal prison allows you to email people!
@vivify saidAnother "whatabout" argument.

Quite honestly, I'm sick of them. That other prisoners aren't being treated in a humane manner doesn't mean Michael Cohen shouldn't be. He is not a flight risk or likely to be violent so I have no objection to him or anyone else in those categories having the incredible "privilege" of being able to do his own laundry.
@no1marauder saidThe fact that prisons should be humane doesn't negate punishments being unequally doled out for the same crimes. This is the issue. Cohen is clearly getting special treatment.

@vivify
It's his first offense.
You're comparing his sentence to someone else's when that other person had a previous record.
Those life sentences that come from non violent crimes are based on the defendants criminal record.
In the feds every time you get a new charge your time goes up regardless of the charge.
For example...
Steal a car serve some time go home.
Rob a bank serve some time go home.
Steal food cause your starving?
That's a bigger sentence because you keep re-offending.
California used to be the worst for that.
They got rid of the 3 strikes is a life sentence but the federal prison system still does it without actually admitting it.
I've met a lot of dudes doing life sentences for petty crimes but when you look at their record you see why they got the life sentence for non violent crimes.
@chessturd saidI’m surprised they get conjugal visits in maximum security 😟

@vivify saidNo, he is not; he's being treated like any other federal prisoner. The Bureau of Prisons categorizes prisoners based on different factors (some I already mentioned) and places prisoners based on that determination. Cohen did request Otisville because of its close proximity to New York City, but that is not an unusual request. https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/23/politics/michael-cohen-otisville-may-6/index.html

It would clearly be the wish of the Donald and his administration minions to treat Cohen as harshly as possible so the idea he would get "special treatment" from them is ludicrous.
