People talk about Canada having great health care and it's "free" ...so I'm just curious about what your health care is like compared to mine in Canada.
Something happened to me over 2 weeks ago where I suffered severe Vertigo and vomiting.
That lasted 4 days but now I can't function properly and when I walk I stagger around looking like a drunk. My vision has also gotten worse.
So...in Canada we pay 15 % tax on everything basically and that covers the hospital/medical visits. (Free my ass!...15 % tax on everything and anything adds up)
So I went to the clinic and I had to pay for my prescription which hasn't helped at all. I was surprised I had to pay for the prescription.
My bloodwork test is 3 weeks away and that was the quickest appointment.
After that I will need the other stuff...EKG...MRI...Cat-Scan etc etc.
So I imagine more long waits.
The point I am making is when you have the so-called "free health care" you get a massive amount of people clogging the system when they don't really need medical attention.
It will be spring before all of my tests are done and thanks to our "free health care" they are backlogged with people who don't have serious problems.
Be careful what you wish for when you demand "free" health care 😉
I'll probably be dead before I get a diagnosis 💀
@contenchess saidIf your poor in a private healthcare dominated system you will wait forever for expensive scans and treatments.

Your story sounds very familiar to this Brit but it depends on your illness and geographic area.
I have type two diabetes and high blood pressure, because I live in Scotland all my prescriptions are free but I don’t think that’s the case in England 🤷🏻♂️
By the way there’s a really good chance that your issues are emanating from an inner ear problem.
@contenchess saidcool. now imagine you are an american who just got fired from his job. Your healthcare was tied to it because of course you would want the guy out to make a profit decide how much to pay for YOUR healthcare. You don't have the money to even go to a doctor, let alone actually schedule procedures (even if it's later down the line) and you wouldn't be able to afford them anyway

How hard is this to understand, you randians free thinkers? We aren't talking how better or worse is socialized healthcare than private healthcare for people with money. They have money they can pay for everything anyway. Rich canadians go into the US for medical services all the time. Germans, french, anyone, can go to a private hospital any time they want. It's the poor that need socialized medicine and it's on us (including you selfish bastards) to provide the funding for it.
Also for you randians free thinkers: your hero got a dose of reality when she was forced to accept medicare because of her mounting medical bills.
@Zahlanzi
When I broke my arm while in the states I went to 2 different hospitals for treatment and they never denied me or even charged me anything.
I had a very bad spiral fracture and the first hospital wrapped me up and gave me pills.
The second hospital was for my orthopedic surgeon visits...once a month for 6 months.
I never got a bill or anything.
I told both of them I didn't have insurance.
Yet people keep saying hospitals deny people treatment. I think that is a myth...or something...I don't know...
I can't imagine my girlfriend paid the bills without me knowing but maybe she did 🤷
@contenchess saidI think your lying again or you were very lucky.

I would imagine any facility or medic would carry out the initial treatment of immobilising the fracture but follow up appointments with a specialist? I think not!

You are lying
@contenchess saidsuper lying
I'm not lying.
"I don't know why you guys keep saying clothes cost money, i went into a clothes store and got a pair of jeans on 2 separate occasions and i didn't get a bill or laughed at or anything, i just walked out with free jeans"
You're either lying about what exactly you went to the hospital for (i can understand ER patching you up for a fracture but definitely not subsequent checkups and therapy) or lying about having insurance.
Or you're dumb/senile/mentally challenged and you don't know what the fuk is going on around you but your caretaker does. (just to cover all posibilities)
@contenchess saidContenchess does not exagerate. Truly, the med situation here is next to none.

A person I know has had very bad complications from onset of Covid on Feb. 1. Caused raging of lung and esophageal problems, where his stomach was pulled up (by a hiatal hernia) behind his heart. Required laparoscopic surgery. A lot of hospital care,, long time.
Total expense for the year: $210K, and he has yet to undergo a 'stomach emptying' procedure (X-ray of swallowed barium).
He has medicare, and he has ($179/month) AARP supplemental insurance. He is about 77 yrs old. He has paid ABSOLUTELY not one dollar for all of this.
I love this country. One may say, ' "hey, I have that in my country"", given socialism, or whatever. But, I will Guarantee you that the Service , programs, procedures, timeliness in those countries does not hold a candle to the USA. Could never compare .
@contenchess saidYes, Zahlanzi (Romania) and I have been around and around on this, I don't want to pick on him. I left him alone when his arguments became futile.
Movies and anti Americans like Zahlanzi want people to think hospitals turn people away if they can't pay.
It makes for a good story but it simply isn't true.
