Here is what "the" experts think.
https://www.aei.org/carpe-diem/there-is-no-climate-emergency-say-500-experts-in-letter-to-the-united-nations/
Of course these are probably dummies, what would they know, Yes?
A group of 75 Australian former and current business figures describing itself as Clintel – which have high-level links to conservative politics, industry and mining – have signed on to an international declaration targeting the UN and the EU and claiming “there is no climate emergency” and that “CO2 is plant food”.
Also signing the declaration is Dr Peter Ridd, the former James Cook University scientist who claims that devastating events on the Great Barrier Reef are not driven by climate change.
Ridd was backed by Queensland’s beef and sugar cane industries to deliver a speaking tour in an attempt to undermine the science linking run-off from farms and poor water quality to coral declines.
This group is linked to conservative interests (of course) and is backed by the beef industry, which has been found to be major contributors toward climate change. They're also backed by the mining industry, whose extracts include coal.
We can safely say "CLINTEL" is a group of biased liars.
@teinosuke saidDon't expect Bill Gates to give up his private jet. It is okay when Bill does it.
This question places the onus on individuals to take action, when the response needs to be structural. For instance, we are encouraged to reduce our carbon footprint by flying less (which I'm actually perfectly willing to do; I hate airports and the whole boring rigmarole of security checks, early check-in, etc) - but policies need to pursued that will help people do that. ...[text shortened]... lot of interventions that will make the environmentally friendly option the cheaper and easier one.
Ask Bill Gates if he supports a private jet tax.
There is no need for a carbon tax for poor people, we need to tax the wealthy. They are burning more fossil fuels that the poor. Start with the wealthy and work your way down. Common sense.
Why not tax those that burn the most fossil fuels?
@jimmac saidI agree. There are a lot of "green" initiatives which are merely virtue signaling. Buying a brand new shiny Prius or electric vehicle is a lot worse for the environment than keeping your existing vehicle for as long as it will run. One should embody the change you wish to see in the world.
Yes you may be right, you do mean you trust the scientists that lose there funding if they do not agree, but no matter, as I said before, I do not need to be convinced of anything either way, Keeping the planet clean is important for its own sake. I am probably more green than most of those " experts" in how I live my day to day life. I hate waste with a vengeance. I try to do ...[text shortened]... Just tell the rest of us what "we" should and should not do.
I do not need convincing of anything.
@wildgrass saidBut Shav, the scientists you speak of all make their living on this hype. They are not like we’re going to just take the day off and say there is no climate change. They will make more money if they stir it up.
There are actually only 14 names on that letter. I read it.
I googled a few of them. One is an engineer, another is a seismologist, and yet another is a professor of the philosophy of consciousness.
So, experts? Yes, technically they are. But their expertise is in a completely different field of science. I'd trust the consensus of the climate scientists (via IPCC).
@teinosuke saidWe have to reduce more than carbon emissions. People have to eat less meat, too. Cattle ranching is very environmentally unfriendly. This will be about as easy as getting Americans to give up their guns.
We've already worked out the solution - it involves reducing carbon emissions. We are, however, proving incredibly bad at putting it into practice.

@wildgrass saidI have been driving for Near 50 yrs, since I was 16, and I have never brought a new car and with rare exception, I end up selling to the wreckers or sold for scrap. To me it just makes sense. As stated, I am probably more "green" than the greens that insist on telling "others" what "they" should do. Hypocrites!

"But our freedoms . . . "
Having observed the selfish, brazenly inconsiderate idiocy of lots of Americans during the Covid crisis, I think we need to plan for the worst.
Almonds will probably be very pricey in the near future, for instance. I think of that as a "canary in a coal mine" for what's to come. That has to do with water shortages in California.
Maybe for other reasons, locally (north Florida) the price of veggies has gone up significantly, not just the price of meat.
But on a brighter note, maybe some will find ways to profit from Earth turning into a hell-planet.
@wildgrass said14 ECD ambassadors in fact. I found two fact checking site and neither disputed the 500. One claimed 6% were credible signatories, the other claimed 19%. They claimed lack of credibility based on connections to mining, etc, yet I say so what. Shavs experts also have there own biases. Again, my point, take individual responsibility, stop asking "others" to do the right thing all the damn time.

And Be happy, the world will or will not end soon.
@jimmac saidYou mean like John Kerry flying to Obama's birthday bash in a private plane while being a mouth piece for global warming alarmists.
Again, my point, take individual responsibility, stop asking "others" to do the right thing all the damn time.

@kevin-eleven saidyou do know how many times the scientists have predicted the "end" of the world. Like these religious cults that you hear about, they just change the narrative when it does not seem to be happening.

I am not saying its not happening, I'm just not getting sucked onto yet another stupid, "Be afraid, be very afraid", load of cr*p.
I rather believe fear is the bigger danger than all the rest combined.
As Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "you have nothing to fear but fear itself".
@jimmac saidI dunno about the fact check. I just read the letter and looked at the signatures.

@kevin-eleven saidInstead of critically thinking about and discussing solutions to an obvious problem, our leaders just blame the other side.

@suzianne saidYou forgot to call him a racist too. Speaking of which, where is Duchess? I haven't seen anything lately. I kinda would like to be called a right wing nutjob racist woman hater by dutchess before I get bored and leave the forums here again. Maybe suzianne can do it .
Cue the right-wing 'tard viewpoint.
