The WHO has labelled it a variant of concern. It may be transmitted more easily than other variants, it has lots of mutations and for the rest more research is needed.

I watched the corporate news and the headline was literally "Sounding the Alarm" for the omicron variant. More fear propaganda.
Nobody knows if the gene vaccines are effective at all against the omicron variant. That doesn't stop Fauci and others from giving their opinion that it does or mostly does though.
Opinions are not science. That is called a "guess".
Nobody in the news media will call Fauci on it and ask him if it is his personal "guess". They want to keep their jobs.
-Removed-One of the main takeaways from the op is probably don’t rely on Sky news for important info. Everything we are hearing about this variant is saying that it is more transmissible but anecdotal evidence seems to be pointing to less severe symptoms.
The point is that it wasn’t WHO that advised countries like the UK to unilaterally ban people from Southern Africa from entering their countries.
Given that it has twice the number of mutations as the Delta variant it’s probably not unreasonable to assume the worst case scenario and act accordingly.
