PBS laying off thousands due to Trump cut

There are thousands of news outlets in the USA. Free. And they support themselves. Find many of your political leanings, Biden news, UK bickering, all there, for free.
PBS, see below, is one that gets Govt Money to support them, can someone here tell me if it would be OK to stop this stupid expense? CNN does not get govt money. Trump has already begun, see article on that, and the number of outlets:

There are roughly 7,945 local news media outlets in the U.S., with 5,595 of those being newspapers, according to a 2024 report from the Local News Initiative at Northwestern University. The remaining outlets include network digital sites, ethnic media, public broadcasters, and standalone digital sites, highlighting the diversity of news sources.
Everyone, even Sonhouse, can access any outlet, for free. Do we need govt funding? Is Trump right, or is he wrong?

What is PBS: Broadcasting Service, a private, non-profit American media organization. It's a network of member stations that provides educational, cultural, and informational programming to the public. PBS focuses on quality programming in areas like education, history, culture, nature, science, public affairs, and children's content.

@AverageJoe1
I know we have people here who think PBS should be funded by the government, and that no one should be laid off from PBS. Can you step up and explain your position on this? I am trying to cultivate nice issues on the forum rather than the Epstein rags.

Well, you have made your own view clear enough, and if you think that it's 'stupid' for the government to assist in a network providing quality programming in the areas you mention then nobody will change your mind, will they? Certainly it's absolutely in line with Mister Trumps ideology to discourage education, to which his current encounters with the finest educational institutions in the US bears witness.

The other day I saw an image of Mister Trump sporting a baseball cap bearing the words 'Trump is always right', or words to that effect, and you will no doubt agree with this. To me and I daresay others it says that the guy's a complete prat, who wouldn't know or appreciate 'culture' if it bit him; he's a rich man, which gives further credence, if it were needed, to the saying 'You can't buy class.'

If Mister Trump sees fit to cut the funding then it's just another manifestation of the great 'dumbing down' of America which is currently going on, and which will, in the end, be detrimental to the American people, culturally, economically, and as regards their place in the world. This is a microcosm of something much bigger, so sure, cut the funding, build some more missiles instead, and we'll see how it goes from there....

Phil, be not disingenuous. Libs seem to want to pick fights, i could be wrong....

See this easily accessible google I did. YOU could have done it, and written back to this thread,,,,,"Hey, guys, there are plenty of sources to educate your young children. Even all of the ones we used to watch are still there. Sesame street, Winky Dink, there are a'plenty!!! We do not need to have our tax dollars go to such extremes when we are covered quite well." (That is, for people who want to plop their kids in front of TV instead of pl.aing outside, but that is another issue.)

So please respond in kind, the money we send to PBS? What for? That could be directed to FEEDING these kids, while they watch this maze of channels.

""""""There isn't a single definitive number for all educational channels for kids, as new ones are constantly created across various platforms like YouTube, streaming services, and traditional television. Instead of a total count, it's more helpful to explore top educational channels, which include a mix of established brands like PBS KIDS, Khan Academy, and National Geographic Kids, as well as popular YouTube creators like Cocomelon and Numberblocks.
Where to Find Educational Channels """ (Then it shows about a million sources)

I hope this is informative. It is not written in angst....please,,,no more angst. I am just trying to save government money waste.

Well, you asked for a perspective, I gave you mine; you may see it as fighting, I see a difference of opinion. I've always held the belief that it's absolutely a government's responsibility to educate its' population. When I were a lad, growing up in the UK, my country of birth, we had a government grant system, which enabled me to go on to further education, an option which I (who am from a lowly background) would otherwise not have had. Nowadays the UK has 'student loans', and the banks have you by the balls before you even enter the job market and embark on a career. I also see education as being for its' own sake, not just for future financial gain. You know, to raise the intellectual and practical level of a population, for the good of all, but then I'm a dyed - in - the - wool 'libtard', so I suppose one would expect nothing else.

I suppose we should all get used to the Federal Government doing nothing for its citizens and instead funneling ALL the money to people whose net worth exceeds $1 Billion.

Sort of a reverse Robin Hood, existing ONLY to fuel the greed of conservatives.

Would you like that Joe?

Oh, watch out, here's a napkin, you're drooling.

If you did ANY research on PBS money you would have found that gommint gives less than 15% of the total they generate each year so that does NOT fund PBS.
I widens the scope reporters have to find stories.

The SO CALLED government is NOT shutting down PBS, but they are laying off a lot of PBS workers but PBS will go on.

What in the HELL has your pontification got to do with shutting down PBS that we do not need?

No, the govt is cutting funds. The PBS people are laying off the workers. A great example of missing an issue.
So, AJoe is not saying that govt is laying off workers. A learning thread, to say the least.
And, hey, 15%, 1%, are you parsing things now? NO money should be given by taxpayers to PBS. I note that you do not say why they should . Did you read my post , about all the media available to them?

If you have the capability of doing grade school math you MIGHT figure out ALL ON YOUR OWN, if gummint takes away 15 % of your funding, QUICK, SPOT TEST. How many % do they have at the end of the day?

The govt should not give any money to PBS. Anything you attempt to formulate, or whatever that is, is moot.
