Oops 😳

Pressed "Enter" too quickly ...

But perhaps you can see where I want to go with this.

In any case, a friend of mine tried to convince me that "The Cure for Cancer" has indeed been found. He was rambling on about how government's have conspired against cancer patients in an effort to # 1: Control the population, & # 2: Maintain employment (i.e. cancer research & funding etc.).

Any thoughts?

There is a better way than that: Why did the same government
fine the tobacco companies? As a population control measure,
smoking beats cancer hands down. Like half million a year. Ten
times the death rate of autos. So why should they kill cancer
research? I just saw a report in New Scientist(admittedly a British rag)
which just showed a use of nanoparticles to bind cancer cell killing
drugs in the nanostructure, the extremely small size of the nano
particles allow it to penetrate the cell membranes and when inside
the cell releases a cell killer. This technique is reportedly
one MILLION times more effective than Chemo which uses the exact
same drug but without the nanoparticle binder can't penetrate the
membrane very efficiently and so destroys nearby cells as well as
the bad guys. This represents a major breakthrough in cancer
research. Yet the government allowed the publication to sneak into
our country. Here another issue: Suppose someone comes up
with a magic bullet like this one might be, would the government
want to be behind the stick on a new multi-billion dollar industry where
a good chunk of that would be taxed? Just doesn't make sense.

Heres another take on it: We don't really have that big a problem
with population size in the first place. Look at countries like China,
India, Indonesia, Japan. Those places have far too large a
population. Compared with them, our country is a virtual desert.

Yes, the originator of this thread has a flag I don't recognise.
You read my reply? Basically cigarettes are ahead of cancer
hands down, so why would they attack tobacco with such vigor
if they were after population control?
I think in china people are encouraged to smoke🙂 At least
the american tobacco companies have shifted their emphasis
to china, one billion smokers can't be wrong!

No. Cancer affects very few before they reproduce and has little effect on population growth.

It does save on social security though!

To shed some light ... I was not referring to the U.S alone. I was referring to governments in general.

After discussing this idea (with my friend) a little further, he brought up another simple point: Money

Now bare with me here. The governement (any gov't okay!!!) is like big business ($$$). Countries have a president (or prime minister etc). Big corp.'s have presidents too!

Countries have ministers. Big corp.'s have managers.

Countries have citizens. Big corp.'s have employees.

And so on and so forth.

Now the company that I am currently working for has over 27 factories around the globe. The plant that I am working for is slated to shut it's doors on September 6th 2005. It has come to be known that this decision was made almost 5 years ago.

5 freaking years.

In that time, "el presidento" has invested over 5 million dollars in upgrades with computers. They had hired many new employees (in quality). Heck, we even had summer time bar-b-que's.

In anycase, why would this company invest so much money in to a plant that was going to shut it's doors?

Well the simple answer is: Money.

For them to invest a couple of million dollars over a five year period was worth it because they led it's employees to believe that we all had a secure future with them.

Now the comparison between the two (gov't & big corp.) should be more clear.

Governments do the same damn thing to it's citizens for one damn reason : Money.

If they can convince you that they actually care about you and your family, then they will be eleceted and re-elected (god bless America!!!) and be able to live a comfortable life all the while making you believe that they are investing in YOUR future when all they really care about is themselves.

Personally, I believe that as a society (in whole), we have become very passive. We believe everything that we hear (on the news) and read (in the newspapers).

Where I come from (NOT THE U.S), one man alone owns 2 (influentual) television networks & countless newspapers right across the nation.

And every night, many people turn on the news and hear his side of the story alone.

Personally, I wouldn't put it passed any governement to do this to it's employees *clears throat*, I mean it's citizens.

And now that you know the way of the world, DP, you can formulate a stragety. 1. Stop depending on other people, especially corporate and government people. 2. Quit your job and go into business for yourself.

# 1. I do depend on people; I depend on them to make the right decisions (when electing there government etc.)

# 2. I was 19 when I had my first child and therefore depended on big corp. "to put food in his mouth".

# 3. I pay taxes for services such as health care and education and I depend on my government to use that money accordingly.

# 4. I won't quit my job because when they shut their door's (in Sept.), there will be an envelope with a hefty severence package waiting for me to ...

# 5. Start my own healthy, transparent business and hopefully make a big differnece in a small world.

Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like an excellent plan to me. I'm not sure what a "transparent business" is but I certainly wish you luck.

Thanks my friend ...

To me a "transparent business" is a company that treats its employees as share holders; Allowing them to express their concerns without fear of retribution.

Honestly, as long as I can make enough money to survive (i.e pay my bills), I will happily share the profits with my fellow co-workers.

And at the end of the day, we arrive at home (to our families) with smiles on our faces.

On the lighter side of things ... I am on my out to enjoy the company of good friends with a couple of cold beers ...

So I wish you a safe and enjoyable evening.

Yes. I have a thought and a suggestion. The thought is that this is a perfect analogy to the "US Is A Terrorist Nation" conspiracy theory.

The suggestion is to stop hangin' with pseudo libs. They are all nuts, and will make you crazy if you listen to their half-baked notions. Do you want to turn into a shavizmir or a stang?
