The US is in debt to just about everyone - otherwise your economy is toast.

And China isn't Communist.

What is it then? A Dictatorship?

A state socialism regime, perhaps. There has been far too much industrial privatization (lately) to classify China as truly communistic.

Big business in the US (corporations) see China as an investment. 1 billion chinese can eat a lot of big macs and buy a lot of nikes.

And a debt is only a debt if you have to actually pay it back.

China is a Communist State, so far.

Given enough time this too may change.

And for anyone doubting that China says the same thing about herself, here is a very short excerpt from ChinaNow.com and what China says about itself.

...Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China

From a Chinese academic aquaintance, the feeling is that they live as employees of a corporation. Though given that historically they have had dynastic rule as a rule, my aquaintance's view was that democracy would be an inefficient model for her country, that ultimately, one clear direction although upsetting or even discrimanatory to some, in the long run would have the greatest benefit for all of China.

china is making a bunch of cheap substandard crap that the US has been hooked on since WW2....they took the place of what Japan once was. I have a feeling that China, though, will just keep making cheap crap, instead of upgrading like Japan did. China is teh suuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Maybe you should just repudiate your debt on the grounds that capitalism doesn't require you to be ethically and politically consistent.

Not possible. At that point no one would lend us money the next time we wanted to start a war and cut taxes.

I was joking. The point I'm making is that your only real alternative to avoid becoming a debtor to a nation you happen to dislike in a supposedly free market is to repudiate your debts, which places you in a 1789-type scenario typically initiated by communist movements coming to power in developing nations.

Just because a country has a party calling itself communist in power, doesn't make it a communist country.

If only it were that easy!
