Here is an article in CNN saying the pope tried to stop Hawking and other scientists from attending a conference on the beginning of the universe and talking about the arrest of Galileo, where he tried to fix things there but calling it a "MUTUAL" miscomprehension. So even centuries later the church is not willing to unconditionally say they were wrong in calling the Earth the center of the universe. And now they want scientists to NOT study the birth of the universe, saying nobody can understand that event because it came from god. I guess you can predict my response to that load of crap.

LMFAO!! There is no center of the universive in relativity, moron.

EDIT: Leave the science to the scientists. Stick to the law.

My understanding is that the Catholic Church was against any claim which implied a lack of importance in the position of the earth in the universe. Your apparent claim that they were correct is like a child crossing his fingers behind his back and claiming that that somehow negates his lies. The Church was wrong, we know it, they know it, they just dont like to admit it as that would imply the possibility of other mistakes.

Besides, the Church had admitted it was wrong on the matter a long time ago.
As to the importance of the position of the earth in the Universe, that was something the Church endorsed from the [pagan] Ptolemaic-Aristotelian system.
