@shavixmir saidA governor is the mayor/president at the state level
What are governors?
You have senators for the senate
You have representstives for the house of representatives (I presume).
Is the governor sort of like a mayor? But then on a sort of level between state and cities or something?
And how’s that divided then?
They can deploy the National Guard in emergencies
@shavixmir saidIn the Netherlands, there's a Provincial-Executive. A Governor is the equivalent in a US State except there's only one (rather than 3 to 7 deputies) and he's directly elected by the People of the State rather than the Legislature.

@kevcvs57 saidAs if it makes any difference. Even if there was a red wave it would change nothing. Any country that has bad wealth inequality is a country where democracy is a farce. The USA is run by a minority of billionaires. The UK is the same way.
Hahaha the modern day Stalin aka Putin will be raging today, his boy cost the republicans their wave.
You will be forced to accept this fact sooner or later. Just remember someone told you that before it became a widely accepted fact. All of this partisan nonsense is just a dog and pony show to convince you that you have a choice in the rigged game.
Results are still trickling in from the Arizona and Nevada Senate races. In the former, Mark Kelly (D) seems to be expanding his lead which is up to about 95,000 but still with 30% of the vote to be counted.
In Nevada, Laxalt's (R) lead has shrunk a bit to about 18,000 with 20% of the vote left to be counted. Election officials in the State seemed to say most of the leftovers are in Democrat friendly areas, so Cortez-Masto still might defend her seat.
The math is this; if either party wins both, they have the majority in the next Senate. If the races split, it all comes down to the Georgia runoff on December 6.
Looks almost certain the Republicans take the House albeit by a narrower margin than expected.
@no1marauder
Why do you care? None of this really matters. Nothing will change very much regardless of which party controls congress. Both parties are controlled by billionaires. We really have only one party, the plutocracy. That is the result of extreme wealth inequality.
When will you accept our country is run by a minority and that both political parties are under their control? All of this fuss is just to convince you that you have a choice. You don't.

Here in Pennsylvania there are some curious tidings.
First, the "Red Wave" appears to have swept Democrats to the cusp of having control of the state House of Representatives for the first time in 12 years. Last I checked the Democrats have gained 9 seats and the R's have lost 9. Now Democrats have secured 99 seats, with 102 needed for a majority, and 10 races are still undecided. One race has an R only 3 votes in the lead, with provisional ballots yet to be counted.
As for the state Senate, it's D +1 and R -1. Now nearly a tie in that chamber.
That's all for now. Let's keep surfing this gnarly red wave!
@metal-brain saidQ. So who won the election?

Never heard of it in my life.
Maybe it’s to do with translation?
Do you mean the gedeputeerden? That’s not a single person, whilst a governor is. Isn’t it?
@shavixmir saidSimply put a governor is to a US state as the president is to the US as a whole. A single executive, elected by the plurality of voters. A few states require a clear majority and so have a runoff election.

That’s the Dutch version of a governor.

Yeah. That’s the head of an office. Appointed. It’s the gedeputeerden.
Got it!
@Metal-Brain
Funny how there have been billionaires for centuries and it is only now in the US and the UK that now they are pariahs. I assume therefore you want to execute all billionaires to keep them from pumping billions into elections.
How about this: Change the LAWS which right now says we don't want to know where your political money is coming from or how it is spent.
Seems like it is more like paid off senators and house members who are the problem. It is the ones paid off who pass laws allowing infinite amount of money to be spent on politics.
It is said the midterms had 16 BILLION spent on it. More than presidential elections. And the reason for that is repubs pumping money by the billions into ads spreading fear and such which did not work. Voters saw through the BULLSHYTE puked out by repub zombies, stop the steal, and all the rest of the Trump lies.
Trump singlehandedly messed up our government and society in general.
He is the most evil individual in US history THE worse POTUS in American history and that is saying a bunch considering the losers we have had like Harding and others.
Trump makes Harding look like a saint.
Maybe the Trump era is over, not immediately but the elections are over and Garland is chomping at the bit to indict this corrupt POS traitor that Trump really is.
May Trump live long and prosper, in prison.
