Yikes. It's a generations-old phenomenon that young kiddos start their political careers as liberals and then grow more conservative over time. You know, they find out about taxes and government waste and what not, so they lean more and more towards limited government philosophies. But Millenials aren't switching to voting for Republicans like prior generations.

I think it's cause the secret's out. Republicans are not the party of limited government anymore. Look at the spending under Trump-o. Look at this dang chart. Yikes! No wonder there's a renewed push to increase the voting age.

Had no idea about this until you mentioned it. Googling shows this was brought up by a fairly young Republican candidate:

Polls consistently show young people oppose rich men like him. This is a completely self-serving suggestion.

The republican party has become a farce.
It’s like a joke in some alternative universe setting.

Funny how Republicans want to raise the voting age to 25 while screaming about raising the age to by automatic weapons to 21.

I look at all the countries in Europe and S. America that went conservative recently and wonder why the USA was exempt.

I don't know, dude. I hope young Americans learn that the true "small government" party in the US is the Libertarian party.

GO LIBERTARIANS!

a libertarian candidate was booed for saying we shouldn't get rid of driving licenses.

libertarians are just as insane as flat earthers. And since they have a slim to none chance of ever winning enough public offices to matter, they are a hilarious running gag

Europe’s swing to the right (although many countries haven’t really) is still, generally, to the left of the democratic party.

What we do have is a very worrying anti-immigrant sentiment on the rise.
In various countries there’s a housing problem (not enough cheap housing) and the influx of immigrants and refugees makes the problem larger.

And so the immigrants get blamed. When the problem is obviously that they should be building more cheaper housing. And right-wing parties generally don’t build cheaper housing… it’s a case of turkeys voting for Xmas and then blaming johnny foreigner for their woes.

Trump loves the republicans no matter how insane they are.

Yeah with the working age at 16, they'll be paying taxes for almost a decade before they can vote?

I had actually seen data showing that white young men tend to be very conservative... but IDK.

It doesn't actually really matter where the perceived left/right is shifting since the parties will actually bend to accommodate shifts, like the way that the 1990s Clinton government was very pro-business and proposed welfare reform...

And like how the Democrat Presidents after 9/11 have all been warmongers.

You’ve just been told why, it’s because you guys are not conservatives anymore, you are radical right wing authoritarians. There is no where for a conservative on the fiscal right to go politically.

Go Moderates!

So how do you think this "shift" occurs with Republicans? They've shown that they cannot handle federal issues like immigration and spending. The old voters still love it. How can they fix things, appeal to younguns, without alienating the olds?
