Top GOP lawmaker won't condemn calling events of Jan. 6 'legitimate political discourse'

Those were the words used in a GOP censure resolution of Cheney and Kinzinger.

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, refused to condemn a censure resolution targeting two Republic ...[text shortened]... rs' roles on the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

you havent got past pelosi refusing the additional resources Trump requested for this protest, or, capitol police INVITING protestors in the building, or, a capitol police officer shooting and killing an unarmed woman.

Lets get to the bottom of this and maybe we can figure out exactly what happened.

All we have now is people being indefinitely locked up for at most trespassing. This is dictatorship third world territory.
We know exactly what happened.

It's too bad that you have finally showed us who you are, just like the entire Republican Party has done by censuring two Republicans who at least have enough honor between them not to lie about Insurrection Day.

Like the rest of your party, you're an apologist for criminals.

yes, there are TWO investigations. The one the media reports on most is the one pelosi runs, she banned republicans from participating, only two rinos were allowed.

She is still withholding video footage...btw...pelosi stopped the investigation of chinas virus also

This is very sage advice.
I say, ''pay attention to your first impression.''

It’s certainly an interesting take.
And contradicts everything they said directly after the event.

Why is it interesting? Well, just look at the door they’re opening with this.
Say the republicans win the next election and democrats say, without any proof, that the election is stolen and they storm the white house, trash congress and tear up local government buildings.

It’s just legitimate political discourse.

They said so themselves.

I can see a scenario where riots could be legitimate.

Let's say the exact opposite of what happened in 2020 occurred:

- Courts actually agreed election fraud occurred instead of dismissing 60 claims;
- The three Georgia recounts showed Trump won instead of Biden;
- It was Biden pressuring state officials to "find" the votes needed to win instead of Trump
- If Trump's own DOJ said there was widespread election fraud instead of Barr refuting Trump
- If Texas governor's reward for reporting election fraud exposed a Democrat instead of a Republican
- If it was Democrats who signed fake elector documents saying Biden won instead of Republicans for Trump

Let's say all of that happened, and somehow Biden still won; then I could at least empathize with the rioters. History is full of times when riots broke out over injustice. Had the exact opposite of 2020 occurred, Jan 6th could've arguably been one of them.

Yes. But it's still a riot and not legitimate political discourse.

No I think in the case outlined it’s legitimate political rioting.

A riot, even if for a "legitimate" reason, isn't political discourse. It could arguably be considered an extreme form of activism, but not discourse.

Organized protests or demonstrations would be legitimate political discourse, but not riots.
