Will be the UK's first non-white, South Asian (Indian) PM. The third PM in only 7 weeks.

What's interesting is that Boris Johnson received 54 votes as the runner-up, despite his resigning only last month. Sunak also resigned from his position, while under Boris Johnson's cabinet, which started a domino effect contributing to Johnson's collapse. So the top two candidates for party leader were two people who resigned from the same cabinet only a few weeks ago.

What a mess.

Any opinions on Sunak?

@vivify

Sunak is Ok, the question is, will he be able to assemble a good cabinet and get support, too from his party

Sunak should not be in politics at all, much less PM. Too much potential for conflict of interest. Unless all of his assets are taken out of his control and reinvested in blind trusts.

I’d say so. They couldn’t trust the Tory hobbits back in the shires to vote for Sunak over a one eyed mangy dog so they side stepped them.
The irony is they are screaming about the undemocratic nature of the process because they (160,000) didn’t get to force their choice of PM on the other 70 million of us again.

I was just saying to friends that tories are a lot like anal warts.

I don't know why. It's just what they remind me of.

He’s good with money he made a better chancellor than he will PM.
I’m a bit concerned with how entangled his in-laws might be with the political powers in India.

I’ve never had Anal warts but if they are a pain in the ass I get the analogy.

Indian-ish.

He was born in the UK, to upper-class
no idea what caste he is, but definitely upper-class
parents from the African English colonies. His ancestors did come from India at some point, but the recent generations were all fully in the service of the British Empire. There's no Slumdog Millionaire in his ancestry anywhere, but a lot of Rangi Ram.

Na, only when they are corrupt and change leaders every other month.

The UK would need a constitution in the first place ... or which document would you identify as "constitution"?

Well that would be ridiculous, what if they die or become incapacitated, but if they are changing them and thwarting the will of the people because of internal revolution and strife, twice in 6 weeks then yeah given that everyone understands that they are voting for a particular PM and their associated manifesto, then yes they should return to the people and present those two things to them, especially the manifesto aspect.
Truss was ousted by the markets not the complete reversal of the ‘levelling up’ manifesto presented by Boris Johnson, come to think about it that’s not a phrase I’ve heard coming from Sunaks mouth since becoming our third prime minister.
A Tory PM is a Tory PM and it doesn’t bother me which one is in or out but a manifesto is a contract made with the electorate and breaking that contract is certainly a reason going back to the people.
