Do any of you listen to these people on the radio?

I find it disturbing that friends of mine actually like these guys. I started listening to them recently for entertainment, but I was surprised to learn that alot of people actually take them seriously.

Recently for instance, Rush implied that the US may need to nuke Fallujah.

Last night, Hannity said that animals were put on this earth by God so people had something to eat.

Personally, I feel like I am investigating an alien world when I listen to these folks. I am making an honest attempt to understand the particular memetic mind-warp that motivates these people. Can you help me?

Yeah, just stop. In the words of John Stewart, these guys are "huuuuurting America." Same goes for Ann Coulter.

Two cases:

They actually believe what they say => stupid
They don't believe it, but spread lies and hate for the money => crook

If I am going to listen to a conservative television/radio personality, I go with Tucker Carlson (not on Crossfire though; on PBS). At least he tries to make sense.

Don't listen to them. You're listening to the worst that conservatives offer up. Rush and Bill are showmen who masturbate their own egos and fatten their bank accounts by using prejudice, ignorance, fear, and hatred. They feed on the divide between dems and republicans. There are plenty of other conservatives that can provide good points and serious insight into the conservative point of view.

Decent and intelligent writers and speakers for the conservatives are out there, but guys like Rush and Bill get the attention. They're the conservative's version of Jerry Springer.

telerion, you took the words out of my mouth. Just recently I said the exact same thing to a friend "I like Tucker Carlson because at least he tries to make sense".

These talk jocks are absurd liars and distorters of reality. Friends of mine have decided, for instance, that global warming is a left wing conspiracy. Are they scientists? Of course not.

I cannot pick up Rush Limbaugh were I live, but I find Sean Hannity to be one of the most annoying personalities in the media simply because he doesn't know how to listen and he constantly interrupts. I happen to enjoy Rush which I guess puts me in the minority on the site, My avatar is by choice as I like the exchange of ideas and discourse. It's a Jungian thang.

Here's a few that I read in my local paper. Even though I disagree with much of what they write, they at least know how to express an opinion, keep the rhetoric to a minimum, and do it without taking cheap shots at every liberal alive. Every now and then they even make a good point. ๐Ÿ™‚

It gets funnier if you view the entire spectrum of the radio and tv right.

The TV ministers whose chief goal seems to be putting the Apple back on the tree of knowlege, and the war mongering radio wags that spout nothing but hate in the name of a pacifist Christ.

They do serve a purpose to the Republican party, that purpose is to keep the loonytoon vote in a state of ignorance.

Rush, for instance, should take his butterball turkey self over to the mountains of the Pak-Afghan border and conduct a hunt for bin laden, maybe then he might have a clue to what our kids have to deal with when we send them to war.

Hey that gives me an idea: how about an all volunteer Christian Crusader Brigade .. led by the radio jocks , funded by their sponsors.
The line forms on the Right!!!!

Actually I think bringing back the draft, and drafting only those who agree with the war in Iraq, sounds like a great idea.

I wonder how many people would openly support a war that they (and only they) had to fight?

I think I'm going to subscribe to satellite radio when Howard Stern goes on Sirius.

I have a friend who would describer herself as very liberal. She is grieving Dan Rather's retirement. She was stunned that I listened to Rush and Bill O'Reilly and the Fox network. I finally said to her: "Well, why wouldn't I listen to them in addition to PBS or CBS or CNN? Is it not my job to be well informed from many perspectives?" I guess not if it is a conservative viewpoint.
