I listened to his show because my dad listened to his show. He was clearly a great orator, and a provocateur, who was fun to listen to. Until recently, I had no idea his radio show was the most listened to in America. I had no idea people were listening to him and actually took him seriously. Most of what he said was intentionally designed to drive wedges between people, creating our modern partisan warfare, ramping up the stakes of whatever meaningless carp was in the news that week. It was funny as long as you recognize it as satire. I mean, some of the stuff he said was bonkers.

On environmentalism: "the most beautiful thing you can do with a tree is cut it down."

Women's rights: "Feminism was invented to allow unattractive women to enter the mainstream of society."

Didn't shy away from the controversial topic of being pro-slavery: "slavery built the south. I'm not saying bring it back, but it had merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark."

Maybe my favorite: "columbus saved indians from themselves."

When Jerry Garcia died this was Rush's Obit: "just another dead doper and a dirtbag"

Maybe we say the same for him?

Because I'm an inherently charitable person?

Fine. After Kurt Cobain died at age 27, Rush called him a "worthless shred of human debris." Is that better?

@Duchess64 - I doubt that Rush Limbaugh would have cared about what his enemies thought of him.

That's about it. He'd allow them to call into his show and try to rationalize with them. That was a comedy all of its own, sometimes.

@wildgrass - Until recently, I had no idea his radio show was the most listened to in America.

At one time, Limbaugh's radio show had the largest audience in the world, until it was taken over by a morning talk show in China.

Right now, he is on over 600 radio stations in the US. That'll change. 😞 😢

    Pointless asking me.
I only know what he was. Never once listened to a whole show of his.

I remember vividly the day John Lennon died.
I'm sure Rush had nice things to say about John Lennon.
But really ? Rush ?? He'll be forgotten by the weekend as far I'm concerned..
